Brunswick Tri-City Results - 10/28/2012

Well one weekend gone and another successful SFT AHT event in the record books. We had another event in a very remote part of the valley but the SFT family and new members still came out to support each other. We had a total of 64 entries, 21 cashers, a 1 in 3 cash ratio, and paid out almost $3,000 in our main AHT event. Our side action in the AHT event drew another 28 entries in the sweeper and when combined with the high game pots paid out another $632! This weekend also had an AST (Scratch) event and that event drew 23 entries and paid out over $1,000.00 - more info for that by clicking here. As always, I want to thank the SFT family and it’s new members for coming out to support us and each other. You are the reason the SFT is growing at such an incredible pace!

I want to take this moment to welcome some new members to the family! Shawna Strause, Zach Ponze, Joel Miller, William Nedry, Corey Cranmer, and James Hicks, welcome to the SFT AHT! We all hope you enjoyed your first experience and welcome you to an ever expanding bowling club and family. Also, congrats to Teri Hamilton, Shawna Strause, Chris Wheat, and Zach Ponze on making their first ever quarter finals appearance. This was Shawna and Zach’s first SFT AHT tournament to boot! Can’t argue with immediate success! Great bowling to all of you and congrats on the stepping stones you all reached this weekend!

The event used a very difficult 39ft sport shot this weekend. The pattern was very difficult but allowed for multiple styles to compete on the fresh. Players of all styles were having success on the pattern but the key for all of them was making their spares because striking wasn’t coming easily in the least bit. As the tournament progressed throughout the weekend it was clear that the right side of the lane transition was making things more difficult on the righties. By the end of the tournament most of the lefties tended to play in the same part of the lane, which allowed for them to open the lane up a little bit by the final qualifying squads. The right side of the lane however, seemed to have been played at a lot of different angles and, for this event, seemed to have made pair to pair a bit tougher. It wasn't significant but it had its impact later in the tournament.

First, as always, are the Economy Parlay success stories. This weekend featured a usual Parlay power house, in Jai Janoe, and a new bowler to capitalize on the Economy Parlay, Chris Wheat. Chris really dominated the Parlay field as he won in the “A” division both days! He learned from Saturday, so on Sunday he took his free entry and progressive pot and advanced to the quarter finals off of divisional insurance. Jai, as I said before, has had a lot of success already with the Parlay. He came in on Sunday only, bowled the Parlay, won it, and then qualified with a score of +42 which led his division on Sunday. Congrats to both of you for being this weekend’s “Parlay success stories” and turning a small $25 entry fee into big money!

Our semi-final matches consisted of Ben Spencer and Carlos Vejar in the A division and Jeff Brackett, Lisa Henderson, and Jai Janoe in the B Division. The A Division was a tight one. Ben stepped up in the tenth frame only needing a mark to win, but that wasn’t so easy this weekend. His shot went right through the face but he caught a break, breaking up the split, covered his spare, and moved on to bowl in title match. The B division finals were not even close; Jeff Brackett came out to represent his home house and crushed his opponents with a nice score of 229 with handicap, which beat the next high by over 30 pins. The final match didn’t leave much to the imagination either with the battle of the lefties being won easily by Jeff Brackett with a score of 232 to Ben’s 184. Great bowling to both of you and special congrats to Jeff on getting his first SFT AHT title! Happy for you and the Brackett family!

Thanks again to everyone that came out, and also a special thanks to Mike Dirmyer and his staff at Brunswick Tri-City. We look forward to seeing you all at our next event this weekend at AMF Desert Hills lanes on November 3rd and 4th.   This event will feature all of the member favorites like the $100 per game side pot squad, economy parlay squads, divisional insurance, senior and women’s division and much more! We look forward to seeing you there!
