AMF Union Hills

Our event this weekend was at AMF Union Hills lanes and we had a decent turn out considering it was opening weekend of the Phoenix City tournament and also St. Patrick’s Day. We had 72 entries (47 qualifying and 25 economy parlay), 25 cashers, a 1 in 3.6 cash ratio and we paid out a little over $3,000.00 in main and side event prize fund. The players bowled on the 39ft Winding Road oil pattern which yielded some interesting results. At most tournaments the cut scores are higher in the C division and lower in the A division because of the increased amount of handicap in the C division. This tournament was the complete opposite with the A division cut score taking +100 and the C division cut score going as low as the +50 range. The pattern appeared to allow players to play in their comfort zone for the most part with a variety of playable options.

Wow! What a weekend of bowling! The majors are always an incredible amount of work, bowling, fun, payouts and exciting finishes! The event drew 226 total entries, had 62 cashers, a 1 in 3.6 cash ratio and paid out over $15,000.00 in main and side event prize fund. There is no question that the best way to measure the success of a tournament is on its payout. The amount paid out and the ratio of its payout. In terms of those metrics, this was one of our most successful tournaments ever. 1^st was 20 times your entry fee, 2^nd 10+ times your entry, last cash was 1.5 times your entry fee, we had a 1 in 3.6 cash ratio and paid out over $15,000.00! Absolutely incredible! Thanks to the amazing SFT AHT family for making these events such a huge success!

We had another fun and exciting event at AMF Union Hills this weekend. As always the SFT AHT family found a way to set another record. It wasn't the entry count this time, but instead the number of new bowlers. The event drew 111 entries, 30 cashers, a 1 in 3.7 cash ratio and paid out over $4,100.00 for the entire event! The record was the 17 BRAND NEW bowlers that came out this weekend. I can't say that it has never been done because our first event ever was all new SFT AHT members since it was a new club. However, as we have grown our events have normally drawn 4-6 new members at each event. The fact that we had 17 at this one was absolutely incredible. It was due in large part to Bo Copeland doing promotions at the host center, and the rest of the SFT AHT members bringing in new people.

Our event this weekend was quite a bit of a change from our normal event. This event started an hour later, but only had two squads instead of the usual 3. It also didn't feature a re-oil before the quarter finals due to the reduced number of squads. It resulted in squads concentrated with people and a sprint to the quarter finals. It also created for a little bit more of an "in and out" fashion for some as the event didn't take as long as usual. All in all, I think this new format will be a nice addition to our normal format to mix things up a little bit. There won't be too many more events on Saturdays only, but this format will be used more often on Sundays. We are using this format to try and have events at some centers that we normally can't. These centers are much more interested in hosting our events if they don't take up the entire day.
