Well we had an incredibly fun event on Friday night. We had our first ever 40 frame game tournament. This was our 2nd event in the “Fun Force Format” series, and was probably the most fun so far. A lot of the bowlers had a blast going from frame to frame, seeing what was in store for them next. The bowlers bowled on a 39ft modified house pattern which would be the same pattern used for the weekend tournament as well. A lot of bowlers used this fun format as a way to get an idea of how to play the lanes on the weekend. The pattern really allowed bowlers of all styles to compete and didn't really have very many high scores.
We got to see some incredible highs, and some incredible lows. Veteran member Mike Morales threw 13 strikes in a row at one point in time which ended up giving him the title and $300.00. The incredible low will come at the expense of one of our new members Marlon Brown. I hope he is ok with me sharing this story…. It was brutal. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the 40 frame game format, of the 40 frames, 2 are “Super Sour Grapes” frames. In these frames if you leave any pins standing after your first ball, you lose 5 points per pin you leave up. Marlon had the sourest experience possible, throwing a gutter ball in one of his “Super Sour” frames. This resulted in minus 50 pins to his score but created a memorable experience and a great story, so thanks Marlon!
The event drew nearly 40 members and had 46 entries. We ended up paying out over $2,000.00 in tournament and side event prizes. For being on a Friday night, this event was a huge success! I want to thank all of the SFT AHT members for coming out and supporting this event. We are already looking to schedule more of these tournaments for the 2013 season, because so many people loved the format.
We did have some new members come out to try this event, so I want to welcome them. Julie Dye, Mark Hamilton, Marlon Brown, Jenny Davis, and Nathan Smith welcome to the SFT AHT family. I hope you all enjoyed your first experience with the club and we look forward to seeing you at your next event.
Our next fun force format will be December 29th, and will be our last event of the 2012 season. Since this event is double points and the last event of the season, it should be a very exciting conclusion to the 2012 season points race. This event will be a criss cross doubles format which was a lot of fun at AMF Mesa and drew 64 teams the last time hosted this format. We look forward to seeing you all there!
