Brunswick Desert Sky - 9/16/17

Our event this weekend was at Brunswick Desert Sky lanes! We had a great turn out with 90 entries (65 qualifying entries and 25 economy parlay), 24 cashers, a 1 in 3.7 cash ratio and paid out over $4,500.00 in main and side event prizefund. The players bowled on a 35ft Cheetah oil pattern that provided slightly higher cut scores then usual. Cheetah tends to be one of the easiest sport patterns, as it allows players to get some free hook on the gutter which is similiar to the house shot. However, it is still a sport pattern, and isn't a walk in the park. There isn't a lot of oil in the middle of the lane, like a house shot, so you have to get it to the outside friction or the ball will run high.

We also had some new players again for this event. Welcome Logan Vanderleest, Josh Morin, and Kevin Lewis. We hope you guys had a good time at your first event! We look forward to seeing you at the next one. Also congrats to Josh Morin on also being one of the players that advanced from the economy parlay.

There were 21 semi-finalists which meant we cut to the top two in each division. The A division was Josh Moret vs Mike Fitzgerald. The B division had Ron McDonald vs Josh Morin. No that isn't the same person that was in the A division finals, and it's a Craig typo (I know they happen a lot). We actually had two people with almost the same uncommon names. In the C division was James Roethle Sr. vs Derek Hamm. The three division champions were Derek Hamm out of the C Division, Mike Fitzgerald in the A division and Josh Morin in the B Division. This put brand new member Josh in his first title match, Derek Hamm, a regular this season, looking for his first standard title and Mike Fitzgerald a regular with a single SFT AHT title and the most tournament/pressure experience of the three players.

The final match was a high scoring one with Derek Hamm bowling his highest score of the tournament with a 245 scratch and a 277 with handicap. Mike Fitzgerald was right behind with a 234 scratch and 242 with handicap, and in 3rd was Josh Morin who had 187 scratch and 215 with handicap. While Derek had won a fun match play event before, this was his first standard event title, which is what most players are after. Congrats to him on his first win and $1,000.00 win. We apologize for not having more details in the write up.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the event and a huge thanks to Liz for running the show in Craig's absence. We will see you all at our next event on 10/8 at Glenfair Lanes!
