Memorial Day Event Info & Results

Memorial Day Major - Bowlero Kyrene - 5/25/26

Location:

This weekend’s event was our 3-Day Labor Day Major at Bowlero Union Hills.  We would see 221 total entries with 176 qualifying and 45 parlay entries this weekend.  We can’t thank the bowling community enough for all the help in making this such a successful event.  The event had 52 cashers, a 1 in 4.25 cash ratio and paid out over $13,560 in main and side event prize funds.  The players bowled on a Patriot Mystery oil pattern (42 ft 2025 ITC Nationals - Men) that proved to be very tough. Players did not know any info on the pattern until Monday, as it was announced at the start of the cashers round. It would put a premium on avoiding splits and picking up spares. The scoring pace was pretty steady day to day, with most people having success playing straighter (more in the track).

We would see two people win the Momma’s Mystery Pot this weekend! Those bowlers were Jericho Gaydos for $500 with a score of 155 and Arthur Lara for $500 with a score of 171! We also had our first 300 game in a very long time bowled by Curtis Spence. Check out Curtis’ final shot here:

We also had our Memorial Day Mega Raffle, which featured more prizes than usual tournaments, and here are your mega raffle winners:

The Quarterfinals was a big one with 43 bowlers on the floor.  The pattern was re-oiled before the start of the quarterfinals and it showed a wide variety of score.

The cut ratio to advance from the quarterfinals into the first Semi-Final round was 1 in 3. The A division would go from 15 to 5 bowlers. The B division would go from 16 to 5 bowlers. The C division would go from 12 to 4.

In the A Division, we would have 5 bowlers all bowl in one match, having the top 2 bowlers emerge to play for the A Division finals. Those five bowlers were Jason Lowery (+85), Shawn Grant (+65), Justin Penwell (+61), Myles Hamilton (+58), and Alec Johnson (+45). This match would quickly turn into a 4 for 3 match as Alec would pop off a big 252. The second bowler, Justin Penwell, would come in clutch the last couple frames to sneak in by 2 pins. The A Division final match would be a grind kind of match with not many strikes on the board, but Alec would be able to stay clean enough to take the win over Justin, 193-179.

In the B Division, we would have 5 bowlers all bowl in one match, having the top 2 bowlers emerge to play for the B Division finals. Those five bowlers were Richard Armstrong (+98), Nykolas Walker (+68), Ryan Feber (+61), Rick Mayber (+37), and Tyler Higbee (+37). This match would be somewhat similar to the A Division Semifinals in the fact of Ryan Feber shooting a massive 251, taking the top spot and leaving the second spot to the rest of the bowlers. Richard Armstrong would be the bowler to move in the second spot shooting 214. The B Division final match would be a blowout as Richard would turn up the heat against Ryan, 278-199.

In the C Division, we would have 4 bowlers all bowl in one match, having the top 2 bowlers emerge to play for the C Division finals. Those four bowlers were Nicole Monday (+87), Chuck Lucas (+36), Maddisen Rook (+35), and Jim Milton (+2). This match would go by fairly quickly and we see Nicole (251) and Jim (239) move on to the C Division final. This finals match would be pretty close, as both bowlers got off to good starts, but both bowlers would end up trading mistakes on the scoreboard. This match would end up being so close that it ended in a TIE, 203-203. This needed a 9th and 10th frame roll-off in order to break the tie and Nicole would step up and take control, winning the roll-off 59.8-37.2

For our Finals in our Majors, we use a different finals format. For this event, we would be using an eliminator format, where all 3 finalists bowl one game, the top 2 move on, and then one final game for the title.

The first finals match would be higher scoring, with all finalists bowling well and filling frames, however, it would be Nicole bowing at with the low game of 210. Alec had 228 with Richard having 237. The second finals match would be a battle between to good friends, as the bowled the match with some fun banter, but ultimately, Richard would end up having the better look and taking advantage to claim his 1st SFT AHT title for $1,760! Final scores were 240 (Armstrong) - 195 (Johnson).

Thank you to everyone that came out this weekend to support our Major tournament! Also big thank you to Jay Jay and the staff at Bowlero Kyrene for giving us their center for the weekend and helping us run a smooth on-time event.

We will be back on Sunday, June 14th at Bowlero Mesa for a 2-squad tournament! Hope to see you there!
