Let it Roll Bowl - 4/16/2023

Location:

We kicked off the 2023 Spring Quarterly Circuit (April 2023 – June 2023) this weekend at Let it Roll Bowl. We were making our return to the center for the first time in over six years and the renovations looked great. We had a total of 106 total entries (83 main entries and 23 economy parlays) paying out over $6,400.00 in main and side event prize funds. The bowlers played on the 43ft Kegel Krypton oil pattern that was a bit tricky for both squads. Bowlers were able to play a variety of angles on the pattern. The cut scores stayed around +60 for most of the day, which meant that you had to bowl about 15-20 pins over your average per game to qualify.

We had some new bowlers join us for their first event and we want to welcome Tony Olbeira, Mark Harder, Tina Mei, and Suzanne Kilday. We hope you all had a fun time and look forward to seeing you at our future events. Congrats to Tony Olbeira on making it to the quarterfinals in his first event! Also, congrats to Geoff Garrow, Shawn Grant, Ming Shih, and Ryan Griggs for making their first quarterfinals or their first quarterfinals in a while. Congrats to Ron Schloss, Matt Woodhall and Ryan Bollinger for being this weekend’s Parlay Power Players! All three made it to the quarterfinals off their $30.00 economy parlay entry. We also had a bigger winner in Quinton Bell, who would win Momma’s Mystery Pot, with a score of 167, for $500.00! Your winner of the free plastic ball raffle, with an option to upgrade to any Track high-performance ball for $85.00, was Ken Nelson.

Since this event was only 2 squads there would be no re-oil before the quarterfinals. This resulted in some higher scores as the volume used on the oil pattern held up enough give bowlers a variety of options of attacking the pair. We would see some tight scores and it would all come down to the third and final game of the quarterfinals to determine who would move on to the Semi-Final round. We would have 23 quarterfinalists and with our 1 in 3 cut ratio, from the quarterfinals to the semi-final round, we would cut to the Top 2 in all three Divisions.

The A Division #1 seed would be Parlay Power player Ron Schloss (+108) and he would have to take on red hot Kyle Ponzo (+62). The B Division would see #1 overall seed Curtis Spence (+173) and he would face off with Bryton Bobbitt (+101). The C Division would have SFT rookie Ryan Griggs (+83), and he would be matched up against Ken W. Davis (+78).

The A Division semi-final match would start off with strikes being thrown by Ron and Kyle. It would go back and forth for most of the match, and it would all come down to the tenth frame. Ron would leave a 7-pin on his first ball in the tenth frame and would leave the door open for Kyle. Ron would convert the spare and strike to finish out the match. This would mean that Kyle would need to strike on his first ball in the tenth and he would get up and throw a couple of clutch strikes to defeat Ron, 262 to 246.

The B Division semi-finals would also be close as Bryton and Curtis would come down to the tenth frame. Bryton would finish first and finish out the match with a score of 231. Curtis would need to at least double to have a chance and he would come up a bit short as he would finish with a score of 212.

The C Division semi-finals would also be another close match as Ryan Griggs and Ken W. Davis would take it all the way to the tenth frame. Ryan would come up a bit short as he would finish the match with a score of 215. This would leave the door open for Ken, as he would pick a couple of key spares late in the match and finish with a score of 221 to punch his ticket to the Finals.

The Finals would see Ken W. Davis and Kyle Ponzo looking to break through with their first AHT SFT title. Both bowlers have been in the Finals a few times before but had just come up a bit short. Bryton Bobbitt would be looking to add his second title and was looking at winning the $1,200.00 first place prize.

The Finals would start off with all three bowlers looking to get lined up quickly. Ken would start off with a strike while Kyle and Bryton would make spares. Bryton would struggle with the transition on the right lane and fall behind Kyle and Ken. Ken would start to struggle with carry midway through the match as he would stay clean, picking up his spares. Kyle would get lined up in the second frame to run away with the match by stringing together a four bagger. Kyle would spare in the sixth and then continue his run to finish with a huge 284 game (266 scratch) to win his second AHT SFT title and $1,200.00 first place prize. Congrats to Ken who would finish in second place, with a score of 236, for $800.00. Also, congrats to Bryton for third place, with a score of 193, for $500.00!
