Our event this weekend was at Bowlero Kyrene and we had a lower turnout. We had a total of 33 entries (30 qualifying and 3 economy parlays) with 9 prize winners and a 1 out of 3.67 cash ratio, paying out $1,770 in prize funds. The players bowled on the 45’ 2018 PWBA Fountain Valley Open oil pattern. This oil pattern provided a medium to lower scoring pace, with it taking about +10 to +20 to move on.
No one hit the Momma’s Mystery Pot so that money will roll over to our next event at AMF Mesa. The winner of the drawing for the free plastic ball, with the option to upgrade to any high-performance Track ball for $99.00, was Ken Hall!
There were 8 competitors who made it to the cashers round. Since there weren’t very many people remaining in each division, it would work out that the top bowler in each division after the cashier’s round would move on straight to the finals. Coming out of the A Division would be Ernie Mendoza (+64), B Division would be Juyoung Choi (+58), and the C Division would be Maria Vargas (+28).
In the finals, we would have an 8 time titleist, Ernie, while Juyoung and Maria would be looking for their first title! The finals started off with Maria grabbing the early lead as she would throw an early 3-bagger. However, Ernie would start to catch fire in the middle part of the game, popping off 5 strikes in a row, where Juyoung and Maria would start to struggle with opens left and right. The rest of the game would be more of the same, as Ernie would have a blowout win claiming his 9th title along with the top prize of $660. Ernie is now tied for first in the summer circuit with one event left as well as increasing his lead in the player of the year race. The final scores with handicap were 252 (Mendoza) - 209 (Vargas) - 163 (Choi).
Thank you to everyone that came out this weekend to bowl our tournament. We can’t run tournaments like these without you guys! Thanks to the entire staff at Bowlero Kyrene for having us out this weekend. As always, if you have any feedback, please let us know how we can further accommodate bowlers and improve our tournaments. We’ll be back in two weeks with our last event of the circuit at AMF Mesa! Hope to see ya there!
