Our event this weekend was at AMF McRay and we had a lower turnout. We had a total of 43 entries (32 qualifying and 11 economy parlays) with 12 prize winners and a 1 out of 3.58 cash ratio, paying out $1,940 in prize funds. The players bowled on a very difficult 2023 USBC Masters oil pattern. This oil pattern provided a low scoring pace, with it taking about even to move on.
No one hit the Momma’s Mystery Pot so that money will roll over to our next event at Bowlero Union Hills. The winner of the drawing for the free plastic ball, with the option to upgrade to any high-performance Track ball for $99.00, was Ernie Mendoza!
There were 9 competitors who made it to the cashers round, plus an exemption used by Chase Rohlik. Since there weren’t very many people remaining in each division, it would work out that the top bowler in each division after the cashier’s round would move on straight to the finals. Coming out of the A Division would be Myles Hamilton (+19), B Division would be Alex Olson (-16), and the C Division would be Brian Parker (-4).
In the finals, we would have a 2 two-time titleists, Myles and Alex, looking for title #3, Brian would be looking for his 2nd title in his 2nd event! The finals started off with Myles and Alex both struggles through the first 5 frames. Brian half way through the match was still ahead of both Myles and Alex scratch even though he was the one with the most handicap. Brian was able to hang on to the lead, while the other two could not really make up any ground. Brian would find a way to keep the pedal down and pick up the top prize of $610 as well as win his first two events with (2 for 2). With Brian’s win also creates a statistic that is pretty rare. Before this year, there was only one back-to-back champion in SFT history. This marks the 3rd bowler to win back-to-back this year. And if that isn’t crazy enough, those three bowlers (Ernie, Gunnar, and now Brian) have done it right after one another! WOW!! The final scores with handicap were 203 (Parker) - 160 (Olson) - 153 (Hamilton).
Thank you to everyone that came out this weekend to bowl our tournament. We can’t run tournaments like these without you guys! Thanks to the entire staff at AMF McRay for having us out this weekend. As always, if you have any feedback, please let us know how we can further accommodate bowlers and improve our tournaments. We’ll be back in three weeks for our second major of the year at Bowlero Union Hills! Hope to see ya there!
