Our event this weekend was at AMF Desert Hills and we had a lighter turnout. We had total entries (55 qualifying and 42 economy parlays) with 17 prize winners and a 1 in 3.24 cash ratio, paying out $2,359 in prize funds. The players bowled on the PBA Scorpion oil pattern that provided a medium to lower scoring pace throughout the event.
No one hit the Momma’s Mystery Score today so that money will rollover to the next event at AMF McRay. Your winner of the drawing for the free plastic ball, with the option to upgrade to any high-performance Track ball for $99.00, was Arthur Lara!
There were 15 competitors who made it to the cashers round. The A and C Divisions would each be small enough to where one person would survive and move on straight to the finals. Coming out of the A Division was Myles Hamilton (+78) and the C division would see Dion Lockett (+73) emerge. The B Division title match would see Payton Steele (+89) versus Justin Surat (+48). The match would favor Payton as he took an early lead and never looked back. Payton won the match over Justin, 232-184.
Going into the Finals, both Myles and Payton would be looking for his second AHT SFT title whereas Dion would be looking for his first title.
The finals would start off with Myles getting off to a quick start, as he stringed the first few strikes together. Halfway through the match, there was one spare on the board by all players. Everyone was either striking or opening. Payton would fall behind, where Dion and Myles would be neck and neck. Myles would miss a single pin late which would give Dion the slight advantage going into the 10th frame. Myles finished first and got 20 in the fill to force Dion to mark and get good count. Dion stepped up and got 5 (which hurt him for count) and was able to clutch up and convert the spare. Dion needed 8 pins on the fill to win the title. Dion missed a little right and got 7, meaning that Dion and Myles were tied! By Strikeforce rule, all ties must be broken by a 9th/10th frame rolloff. Myles would have 1 pin of handicap and Dion would have 10.2 pins of handicap in the rolloff. Myles was the higher seed, and chose to have Dion start and finish the rolloff. Dion marked, and Myles stepped up and opened, making it almost impossible to win the match. Dion stepped up and got 8 on his first shot which would be plenty for him to walk away with his first title along with the $590 top prize. Final rolloff score was 37.2-28 Final scores were 225 (Lockett) - 225 (Hamilton) - 188 (Steele).
