Cotton Bowl - 5/7/2023

This weekend we made a trip down south to Cotton Bowl Lanes in Casa Grande, AZ for a 2-day event. Since Tawna always comes up to us every other weekend, we thought we would give her a break and come down to visit her! We had a nice turnout, for a 12-lane bowling center, as we would have 81 total entries (61 qualifying and 20 economy parlays) paying out over $4,800 in main and side event prize funds. The bowlers played on the very tough 40ft 2022 USBC Master’s oil pattern. The pattern made it hard to control the backends on the fresh and would calm down once there was some carry down as the pattern started to break down. It also allowed for bowlers to play a variety of angles and you could see as the lanes played differently from pair to pair. The average score to make the quarterfinals was around +30 which meant you only had a get a few pins over your average to advance. That was easier said than done.

AMF Chandler - 4/30/2023

Our event this weekend would be at AMF Chandler lanes for a 3-squad standard event! With so many other tournaments going on throughout the Valley, we were lucky to have 90 total entries (65 qualifying and 25 economy parlays). We would see 27 prize winners with a 1 in 3.33 cash ratio and we would pay out over 5,200 in main and side event prize funds. The players bowled on the 39ft Kegel Plutonium oil pattern that played very soft at this center. The pattern is a bit flat towards the end of the pattern and allowed for a variety of angles to be be played. This center has typically been one of the higher scoring centers that we go to with the track well built into the lanes. It seemed like on the free oil was where most of the higher scores would be bowled with scores tailing off after each squad. It would take about +100 to qualify for the quarterfinals with bowlers needing to bowl 25-35 pins over their average per game to advance.

Let it Roll Bowl - 4/16/2023

We kicked off the 2023 Spring Quarterly Circuit (April 2023 – June 2023) this weekend at Let it Roll Bowl. We were making our return to the center for the first time in over six years and the renovations looked great. We had a total of 106 total entries (83 main entries and 23 economy parlays) paying out over $6,400.00 in main and side event prize funds. The bowlers played on the 43ft Kegel Krypton oil pattern that was a bit tricky for both squads. Bowlers were able to play a variety of angles on the pattern. The cut scores stayed around +60 for most of the day, which meant that you had to bowl about 15-20 pins over your average per game to qualify.

Bowlero Via Linda - 3/26/2023

We were at Bowlero Via Linda this weekend for our last event of the 2023 Winter Quarterly Circuit (January to March). We had another huge turnout for our 2-squad event! We would see 117 total entries (86 qualifying and 31 parlays), 32 cashers, 1 in 3.65 cash ratio and paid out over $6,500.00 in main and side event prize funds! The players bowled on a 38ft PBA Mike Aulby oil pattern that we have previously used at this center. Many of the bowlers would think that since there was more oil volume that it would play like a house shot, but with all the oil in the front of the lanes it made it extremely hard to swing the ball in the earlier squads.

AMF Mesa - 3/12/2023

Our event this weekend was at AMF Mesa and we had a pretty good turnout considering there were other events going on throughout the Valley.  We had 102 total entries (75 qualifying & 27 economy parlay) for 2 squads, with 30 prize winners and a 1 in 3.4 cash ratio.  We paid out over $5,600 in main and side event prize funds.  The players bowled on a pattern we do not use often that is a tough one to get used to. The PBA pattern Badger that is 52 foot in length. This is the longest oil pattern used in competitive play and “hooking” your ball into the pocket is not really an option at the beginning. You have to get used to your ball fading back high flush until they start to break down a little bit.  The big difference throughout the day was spares and with so much oil on the lane it was hard to “hook” at spare attempts that you would normally be able to convert.

AMF McRay - 2/19/2023

We would be at AMF McRay this weekend for another 2-squad standard event! With so many other tournaments going on throughout the Valley we were lucky to have 108 total entries (89 qualifying and 19 economy parlays). We would see 29 cashers with a 1 in 3.75 cash ratio and we would pay out over $7,600 in main and side event prize funds. The bowlers would play on a very tough 41ft Kegel Turnpike. The pattern is pretty flat for the first 20 feet of the lane with some shape in the middle, this would mean that you would have to play a pretty tight line and if you got the ball out too far outside, it wouldn’t come back. The key to this event was to leave makeable spares and string strikes when you could. The average cut score was around +40 to advance to the quarterfinals which meant that you had to get about 10 pins above your average per game.

Glenfair Lanes - 2/5/2023

Our event this weekend was at Glenfair Lanes, and we had another great turnout for our Early Bird 2-squad tournament. We had 142 total entries (97 qualifying & 45 economy parlays) for only 2 squads! We would see 36 prize winners and a 1 in 3.94 cash ratio, paying out over $8,600 in main and side event prize funds. The players bowled on the 44ft Kegel Titanium oil pattern that was very high scoring. The pattern did have a slight out of bounds, so if you got it too far towards the gutter early, but it wouldn’t come back. We would see a lot of higher scores than usual but going from pair to pair there were some big differences and once the oil pattern started to break down in the later squads, then scores started to increase. It would take about +70 to qualify for the quarterfinals with bowlers needing to bowl 20-25 pins over their average per game to advance.

Bowlero Kyrene - 1/29/2023

We had our 2nd event of the 2023 season this weekend at Bowlero Kyrene and we had another great turnout! We would see 161 total entries (123 qualifying and 38 economy parlays) with 40 cashers, a 1 in 4 cash ratio and paid out over $10,000.00 in main and side event prize funds. The players bowled on a squirrely 35ft PBA Cheetah pattern that played a bit longer than the previous versions that was laid out. Also, the center had updated some of their lanes since our last event here. There was a difference in how to attack the pattern, but those that found success were able to play up the gutter and get their ball to roll correctly through the pins. The average cut score was a bit higher as shorter pattern’s scores are usually on the high side.

Bowlero Mesa - 1/8/2023

This weekend we kicked off the 2023 season with our first event this weekend at Bowlero Mesa.  We had a huge turnout with 174 total entries (134 qualifying entries and 40 economy parlays entries).  It was great to see everyone come out and support our event as we were making our return from the shortened 2022 season.  We had 46 cashers, a 1 in 3.6 cash ratio and paid out over $11,000.00 in main event and side event prize funds.  The players bowled on the 48ft PBA Shark oil pattern that plays a bit differently as it is a long pattern in length but doesn’t have a lot of volume in the middle.  This creates a bit of an odd transition as the lanes start to “dry out” in the front and middle parts of the lane which forces bowlers to move left (for righties) quickly.  However, with most patterns you can still get the ball out towards to outside part of the lane and hook it back but with this pattern if you get it too far outside too early it would hit the out of bounds and not come back.

AMF Mesa - 9/18/2022

Our event this weekend was at AMF Mesa, and it would be our last event of the 2022 Summer Quarterly Circuit. Our season points race, to determine our Player of the Year, is also broken into quarterly circuits with prizes awarded for the Top 4 bowlers in each quarter. We had a lighter turnout considering there were plenty of other events going on throughout the Valley and especially with the NFL season kicking off the previous weekend. We had 85 total entries (70 qualifying & 15 economy parlays) for 2 squads, with 24 prize winners and a 1 in 3.54 cash ratio. We paid out over $6,500 in main and side event prize funds. The players bowled on a pattern we don’t use often that is a tough one to get used to. The PBA pattern Badger that is 52 foot in length. This is the longest oil pattern used in competitive play and “hooking” your ball into the pocket isn’t really an option at the beginning.
