Brunswick Mesa - 1/15/17

Well we are off the ground with our 6th SFT AHT season being kicked off at Brunswick Mesa. The event was a huge success with 120 entries (74 qualifying entries & 46 economy parlay), 30 cashers, a 1 in 4.7 cash ratio and a payout of well over $5,000.00 in main and side event prizefund! We want to thank all of our long time members and new bowlers for making the start of our season such a good one. The players bowled on the 38ft WTBA Atlanta oil pattern which had some very high scores.Players played a variety of angles and places on the lane from straighter around 2nd arrow, to deeper inside angles hooking the lane quite a bit. The average cut scores were around +80 which means the players had to bowl about 20-30 pins over average per game to make the cut. Which is  on the higher side of our normal cut scores.

Brunswick Mesa Matchplay Invitational 2016

This year's match play invitiational was another good one! We had tons of close matches and pressure shots. There is no question the most entertaining form of bowling is match play bowling! The bracket ended up having a large variety of averages and skill levels advancing through. We had Eric Flick get really close to being the first player ever to go back to back, but that was cut shot. We also saw Bill Brackett who is tough every year in this event go pretty deep.

The top 8 players in points get byes in this event and every year it is clear that those are a huge advantage as they are a little more rested and only have to win a few matches to be able to cash. This event really showcases the importance of the season points race. Wheither it's the seeding and what bracket you put in, whether you are are high enough to get in on the waiting list, or just how many byes you get, the points are very crucial.

Brunswick Kyrene - 12/4/16

Well our final event of 2016 was a BIG ONE! We had 107 total entries (80 Qualifying & 27 Economy Parlay), 28 cashers, a 1 in 3.7 cash ratio and paid out over $5,000.00 in main and side event prizefund! The players bowled on a very difficult 32ft PBA Wolf oil pattern, which much like last week, started off hooking A LOT but got tighter and tighter with every game that was bowled on it. Because the condition was influenced so much by the bowlers, the difference from pair to pair kept the scoring very low, with the average cut scoring being around +20, which doesn't even require bowling your average to accomplish. The difference this event compared to last weekends, is that nearly every player played the outside part of the lane, where last week, there were a few who had success playing the middle of the lane. 

Glenfair Lanes - 11/27/16

Our 2nd to last event was another great one! We had 89 total entries (61 qualifying entries & 28 economy parlay), 24 cashers, a 1 in 3.7 cash ratio and paid out over $4,000.00 in main and side event prizefund. The players bowled on a very tricky 35ft Kegel Boardwalk oil pattern that forced most players to have their break point near the gutter. While this pattern is normally high scoring, the difference from lane to lane really kept the scoring at more of a medium pace with most cut scores being around +60.

Shake Rattle & Bowl - 11/6/16

We had our annual event in Camp Verde, AZ this weekend. It’s always a great time at Cliff Castle Casino and Shake, Rattle and Bowl. Saturday’s event was the real exciting surprise. We always have a fun event on Saturdays of the out of town events to allow the locals to get a feel for the tournament and the lane conditions. Well the northern bowling community came out strong with nearly 20 new bowlers who have never bowled a SFT AHT event before! We saw new bowlers take home both the tournament win and the mixed bounty title. Congrats to Terry Herb & Joe Wolf on the tournament win and Terry Herb and Jasmine Martinez on the mixed bounty title. AMF McRay - 10/16/16

Our event this weekend was at AMF McRay lanes and had a great turnout for a two squad event with 80 entries for the event which is about 40 bowlers per squad. The 80 entries had 23 total cashers, a 1 in 3.7 cash ratio and paid out over $4,000.00 in main and side event prize fund. The players bowled on the very difficult Kegel 40ft Red Square oil pattern. This is Kegels version of the original US Open pattern or the more commonly known PBA Bear oil pattern. It is a very flat oil pattern that leaves practically no room for era and puts a precedence on shot making and spare shooting. Since it’s not a extremely long or short oil pattern, players could play in many different places on the lane.

Brunswick Desert Sky - 10/9/16

Our event today drew 68 entries (44 qualifying and 24 economy parlay), had 20 cashers, a 1 in 3.8 cash ratio and paid out over $3,000.00 in main and side event prize money. The players bowled on the 45ft Mexico City oil pattern that is one of the longer patterns we have used in a long time. Most of the players played in the middle of the lane or around the 2nd arrow at the furthest right. It didn't take the pattern long to break down and forced players further left.

We want to welcome the new bowlers that joined us at this event. Jason Kociemba, Mike Miller, Matt Dudley, Christian Roque, Eric Carroll and Paul Colyer are all new members that joined us at this event! We want to thank all of them for coming out and joining us for thier first event! We hope they all had a good time and we look forward to seeing them again! Also congrats to Eric Carroll on being a parlay power player in his first event with us.

AMF Deer Valley - 9/18/16

This weekends event was a bit different than usual, as we started at 3pm instead of the usual 10am. The event had a pretty small turn out with 42 total entries (28 qualifying and 14 economy parlay), had 14 cashers and a 1 in 3 cash ratio. The players bowled on a 35ft Cheetah oil pattern that was much tougher then usual. The middle of the lane hooked a good amount like it normally does on Cheetah. However, the gutter, sometimes hooked like players expected and other times, did not. It definitely looked like most of the players who could play straighter around the first arrow did the best.

Regardless of the number of entries we always get new bowlers who come out to give the event a try. I’d like to welcome Bart Mullen and Francisco Martinez to the SFT AHT family. Neither of them had success, but we appreciate them coming out to give the event a try. Also, congrats to Derek Acuff on being the events only parlay power player.

Brunswick Mesa - 9/5/16

Wow! Majors never get old! There just isn’t anything quite like a bowling center packed with people bowling for thousands of dollars! We have had many major events over the years but, they never get old. We may not be breaking records over and over again like we did in the early years, but it’s still a lot of fun, and we look forward to it every time! This year’s Labor Day event drew 207 entries, had 56 cashers a 1 in 3.7 cash ratio and paid out over $11,000.00 in main and side event prize fund. This payout included over $1,500.00 in high game pots, nearly $1,000.00 in the 3-day mega sweeper, and an $8000.00+ tournament prize fund!

Starlite Lanes - 8/21/16

This weekend we were in beautiful Flagstaff, AZ at the always hospitable and cozy Starlite Lanes. We always have an annual event here and while we don't get the same entry counts in town, there are many of us that look forward to getting out of town and experiencing the great weather and awesome staff at Starlite. Not to mention we always have our SFT AHT "out of town" dinner which is a nice treat. This weekend specifically was a very busy one with a lot fo other events and tournaments going on. Our criss cross doubles event had 5 teams and our standard event drew 39 entries (29 qualifying and 10 economy parlay), each event had nearly a 1 in 3 cash ratio and paid out over $2,500.00 in main and side event prizes. The players bowled on a 39ft Viper oil pattern that had slightly high cut scores with most cut scores being around +80 which requires about 15 pins over average per game.
