Starlite Lanes - 8/21/16

Location:

This weekend we were in beautiful Flagstaff, AZ at the always hospitable and cozy Starlite Lanes. We always have an annual event here and while we don't get the same entry counts in town, there are many of us that look forward to getting out of town and experiencing the great weather and awesome staff at Starlite. Not to mention we always have our SFT AHT "out of town" dinner which is a nice treat. This weekend specifically was a very busy one with a lot fo other events and tournaments going on. Our criss cross doubles event had 5 teams and our standard event drew 39 entries (29 qualifying and 10 economy parlay), each event had nearly a 1 in 3 cash ratio and paid out over $2,500.00 in main and side event prizes. The players bowled on a 39ft Viper oil pattern that had slightly high cut scores with most cut scores being around +80 which requires about 15 pins over average per game. The pattern allowed players to play the lanes from multiple angles, but it did seem that playing the outside was hard to do for all three squads. It worked much better squad 1, then squad 3.

As always we like to welcome the new bowlers to the SFT AHT family! Estevan Delao, Tony Ciresole, Kerrie Schafer, Ruben Redhair, all bowled in their first SFT AHT event this weekend and some had success and some didn't. We saw Estevan and Ruben make it to the quarter finals but fall short of advancing any further. We also had Joe Mascio and Ruben Redhair as our economy parlay power players today. Both of them advanced to the quarter finals off of their $25 entry fee!

The quarter finals was an interesting one with Lynn Arthur barely holding on to the B division top spot, Ron Gonzales just losing to Joe Mascio by 1 pin for the A division top spot, and Robin Unfricht bowling a very impressive +132 to take the C division top spot. This set up for one of the first finals in a while that was all season veterans who have been bowling with us for years. All of them had made title matches before and all of them had titles besides Robin. It looked like it would be a good final, and it was! All three of them went back and forth taking momentum and giving it back. Going into the 10th frame they all had a chance to win the title. Lynn ended up finishing the match last and with two strikes would take home the victory. He threw the first one great, but the second one was left of target and went through the nose. Lynn also had the front 9 strikes at one point during the tournament. This meant Lynn would finish in 2nd with 233, Robin in 3rd at 230 and Joe was the champion with 244 including handicap.

Thanks to everyone that came out to the event ot make it possible and we look forward to seeing you all at Brunswick Zone Mesa for our big labor day weekend event!
