Via Linda - 01/20/2018

Location:

Our event this weekend was at Brunswick Via Linda lanes and we had great turnout for our first Saturday event, with 91 total entries (61 qualifying and 29 economy parlay), 26 total cashers, a 1 in 3.5 cash ratio and paid out over $4,900.00 in main and side event prize fund.  Players bowled on the PBA 47ft Scorpion pattern. Most of the players played in the middle of the lane or around the 2nd arrow at the furthest right. It didn't take the pattern long to break down and forced players further left.

As always, we want to welcome our first-time bowlers to the SFT AHT family! Welcome John Randall, Tim Townsley, Ron Dela Torre, Kyle Reed, Frank Buck and Jenny Pheigaru to our little bowling fam! We hope you all had a good time at your first event and we look forward to seeing you at the next one! Also, congrats to Tim and Kyle on advancing to the quarterfinals in their first ever event! Also, congrats to Joseph Knight on advancing to the quarter finals through the economy parlay! We almost always have 1 bowler that advances by winning the parlay and bowling well again.  Congrats! Nice bowling to everyone!

The quarter finals, like the rest of the event, was medium to high scoring with the standings be pretty tight and being determined by the final game of the quarters. In the A division, with only 7 players, we advanced to the top 2 which were Sean Ashley and Michael Fitzgerald. Shawn was the #1 seed and both players were looking for their first title. In the B division, we had #1 seed Jason Tunay taking on Brian Jackson. Lastly, in the C division we had #1 seed Gary Hamm vs Tim Townsley! The A division match was fairly close with Sean Ashley defeating Michael Fitzgerald in the last couple frames. The B division match was close, but Jason was able to strike and get passed Brian for the win.  The C division was fairly close between Gary and Tim with Gary catching fire to easily defeat Tim, who had been running hot all day.

The final match was a bit of back and forth but not much, with all three bowlers staying clean and making spares when they needed to.  The match all came down to the 10th frame with all three competitors having a chance to win.  Jason was able to double in the 10th , but left 8 in the fill to leave a small opening.  Sean needed a double and 9 to win.  Gary needed to strike out to tie Jason.  Sean was first up and was able to double, then on his last shot the ball went through the nose to leave 7, falling just short.  Finally, Gary came up to finish out the tenth.  He was able to strike on his first shot, but went a bit wide to give Jason his second SFT AHT title and a nice $700.00 first place prize! Also, congrats to Sean Ashley on 2nd and Gary Hamm on 3rd! Thanks to everyone that came out this weekend to make this such a successful event! We look forward to seeing you at our next event on Saturday, January 27th at AMF McRay!
