Let it Roll Bowl - 8/13/2023

Location:

This weekend we were back for another “Early Bird” 2-Squad tournament at Let it Roll Bowl. We would see a total of 83 entries (60 qualifying and 23 economy parlays), 2X cashers, a 1 in 3.19 cash ratio and paid out over $5,700.00 in main and side event prizefunds! The players bowled on the 41ft Kegel Helium oil pattern that played soft compared to other patterns that we have used in the past. The pattern would have a lot of volume in the middle but was a bit flat on the outside portions of the lane. We would see a few bowlers get lined up and shoot some higher scores. The cut this weekend was a lot higher than normal with bowlers needing to score about 20 to 30 pins over there average, per game, to advance.

We would like to welcome a few new bowlers that came out this weekend in Camran Jimmy, Caitlin Johnson, Tom Decenso, and Reed Dillow! Glad to have you come out and hope to see you all at a future tournament. We did have one Economy Parlay Power player in Robbie Patterson, who took his $30.00 economy parlay entry and made it all the way to the Finals! Congrats to Renee Haney, Kevin Duong, Jason Tunay, Jason Stuewe, and Caitlin Johnson on making their first quarterfinals or their first quarterfinals in a while! Also, congrats to Nick Tejada for winning Momma’s Mystery Pot, with a score of 215, for $500.00! Your winner of the free plastic ball raffle, with an option to upgrade to any Track high performance ball for $95.00, was Renee Haney.

Since this was a 2-squad tournament, there would be no re-oil before the quarterfinals. This resulted in some higher scores as bowlers were able to move left and play the carry down from the oil transition. We would have 21 quarterfinalist and with our 1 in 3 cut ratio from Quarterfinals to Semi-Finals, we would cut to the Top 2 in each Division. The A Division would have reigning SFT Player of the Year Tim Eichhorn (+100) as the #1 seed and he would have to take on #2 seed, Parlay Power Player, Robbie Patterson (+83). The B Division would see red-hot Kyle John (+148) as the overall #1 seed, and he would face off against #2 seed Jason Stuewe (+111). The C Division Semi-Final would pit #1 seed Joshua Chandler (+124) versus #2 seed Marcus Haley (+121).

The A Division semi-final match would go back and forth with Tim and Robbie. It looked like it would come down to the ninth and tenth frames to determine who would advance to the Finals. Robbie would be up first coming off a spare in the ninth and would close out the match with all three strike to finish at 225. This would force Tim to have to strike on his first ball in the tenth to keep up with Robbie. Tim’s first ball in the tenth would hit a bit high leaving a 2-pin. Tim would pick up his spare and strike on the fill to finish in second with a score of 213.

The B Division would not be as close as Kyle John would struggle but find a look. Kyle would struggle until the fifth frame where he would get lined up and sheet the rest of the frames for a score of 253. Jason Stuewe would try to keep up with Kyle, but an untimely open frame in the ninth frame would cost him as he would strike out in the tenth for a score of 215 to finish in 2nd place in the Division.

The C Division semi-final match would see Marcus struggle with carry early as Joshua would build up a lead by striking in the first five frames. An open in the sixth would open the door for Marcus to try to come back as he would put up a three bagger in the seventh, eighth and ninth frames to give himself a chance. Joshua would help out Marcus as he would open-spare the eighth frame but would finish with a spare in the ninth and good count in the tenth to finish with a score of 286. Marcus would need to strike out in the tenth to have a chance but would leave a weak 10-pin on his first ball in the tenth. Marcus would miss the spare to finish with a score of 231.

The Finals would see two bowlers looking for their first title and one bowler looking to add his second title. Kyle John was making his first Finals and looking to win his first title. Kyle had just started bowling with us this year and it looked like this weekend was his shot to win it all. Joshua Chandler was also making his first Finals and was looking for his first title as well. Joshua has slowly made his way back into bowling as he had been recovering the past few months from an torn Achille’s and it looked like all the hard work of rehab was paying off. Robbie was looking to win his second title and become the second in a row Economy Parlay Power player to win the tournament as Ernie Mendoza had just pulled off that feat at our last tournament at Bowlero Via Linda. Robbie is a very good scratch bowler and had to be the favorite to win going into the Finals.

The Finals would start off with Robbie crushing the pocket for a strike. Joshua and Kyle would follow up in the first frame with spares of their own. Robbie would double in the second frame as he was making it look easy from just over the left gutter cap and hooking the whole lane. Joshua and Kyle would open in the second frame as Joshua would chop the 2-5 and Kyle would not pick up the “Big 4” (4-6-7-10) split.  The third frame would see Robbie leave a flat ten pin, which he would pick up. Joshua would leave the 3-pin and go on to pick it up. Kyle would strike in the third to try and make up for the open frame in the second. Robbie would be up on the right lane in the fourth frame and would get another strike to try and make up the handicap difference that he was giving to Kyle and Joshua. Joshua would strike in the fourth frame as well to maintain his early lead. Kyle would hit the pocket light to leave a 4-pin, which he would convert. Fifth frame would see Robbie kick out a weak 7-pin for a double. Joshua would miss in a hair and leave the 6-10, which he would spare. Kyle would also miss a bit inside and leave the 3-6-10, which he would spare as well.

Midway through and all three bowlers were neck and neck. Robbie would strike on the right lane for a three bagger. Joshua would also get a mixer strike on the left lane to keep pace. Kyle would leave a ring ten in the sixth frame and pick it up to stay in the match. Seventh frame would see Robbie leave a ring 10-pin. Robbie would bail out on the spare attempt as he was able pull his ball back at the last minute. Robbie would try his spare attempt again but miss a just a hair right as the ball would fall in the pit just right of the 10-pin for an open frame. Joshua would see his ball quit on him as he would leave the 4-7, which he would pick up. Kyle would strike in the seventh frame as he looked like he finally got lined up. Robbie would miss a bit outside and see his ball come flying back to the pocket a bit high leaving the 3-6-9-10 and he would pick up the spare. Joshua would again see his ball go a bit too far as it would hit the pocket light leaving the 2-5. Joshua would pick up his spare on this attempt. Kyle would strike for a double in the eighth frame. The ninth frame would see Robbie crush the pocket only to leave a stone 9-pin which he would pick up. Joshua would strike in the ninth to set himself up for the tenth frame. Kyle would strike again for three bagger as he looked to try and put some pressure on Robbie and Joshua.

The tenth frame would see Robbie’s ball go a bit high leaving the 3-pin, which he would spare. Robbie would finish out his tenth frame with a nine count for a score of 221. Joshua would be up and strike on his first ball in the tenth. Joshua’s next ball would leave a flat 10-pin which he would not spare to finish with a score of 245. Kyle would be up next needing a double and six pins to win the match. Kyle’s first shot in tenth would look good off his hand but roll out as it hit the pocket almost leaving the 7-10 split, but the 7-pin would fall late. Kyle would pick up the 10-pin and strike on the fill to finish with a score of 229. This would give Joshua Chandler his first AHT SFT title and $800.00 first place prize! Congrats to Kyle John on second place and $400.00. Also, congrats to Robbie Patterson on third place and $280.00!
