Golden Pin Lanes Results - 9/20/15

Location:

We had our event this Sunday at Golden Pin lanes in Tucson, AZ. We were very happy to be back in Tucson as we have consistently tried to get more and more bowlers in Tucson to come out to our annual events there in their area. The turn out was much better then our last one there. It drew 43 total entries (31 qualifying entires and 12 economy parlay) had 13 cashers, and paid out over $2,000.00.

The bowlers competed on the 36ft Bejing oil pattern which yielded incredibly high scores in the A division but, not as high in the other divisions. This is a common theme with short oil patterns, as the higher averaged bowler is familiar with and more comfortable playing the far outside part of the lane. It is always interesting seeing how different kinds of patterns yielded higher cut scores in certain divisions.

We also had a few new bowlers come out to this event. We are happy that the locals gave the event a try. Welcome TJ Merritt, Josh Moret and Jennifer Dovers to the SFT AHT family. Also a big congrats to Jennifer and Josh on also making it to the quarter finals in their first event with us. Also congrats to Joe Mascio on begin this weekend's only Parlay Power Player. He turned his $25 into a spot in the quarter finals, which he does quite a bit! Nice bowling to all of you!

The quarter finals was dominated by three players pretty clearly. The A division was dominated by Josh Moret the entire day. He was bowling incredible all day, with no one even close to him in the A division. He led qualifying by almost 10 pins a game and then led the quarter finals by almost 20 pins a game. Additionally, the same with B division champion Jennifer Dovers. She led qualifying by over 30 pins a game and quarter finals by just under 30 pins a game. A lot of players have a hard time adapting to the patterns that we use at the events. Josh averaged a stunning 240.7 which is higher then he averages in his leagues, and Jen also averaged higher then she does in her leagues with a stunning 221 for her games in the event today! Great bowling guys! Also a very impressive performance by Larry Thompson to get to his first ever title match.

The title match was a very close one with all of it coming down to the final frames. The scores were also a lot lower then expected. Jennifer got the lead early on and was able to hold on to it with Josh and Larry not able to throw the shots when Jennifer gave them the chance to win. She was able to win her first SFT AHT title and $600 with 244 with handicap. Josh finished 2nd and Larry 3rd.

Thanks to everyone that came out and made our Tucson event a successful one. We look forward to seeing you at our next fun event on Saturday at Brunswick Zone Mesa featuring the trios baker format!
