Glenfair Lanes - 10/4/20

Location:

Our event this weekend was at Glenfair Lanes and it was our first event of our Fall Circuit.  We had a nice turnout with 79 total entries, with 58 qualifying entries and 21 economy parlay entries, and paying out over $4,000 in main and side event prize funds.  The players bowled on a very difficult 47ft Eiffel Tower pattern that forced players to play the lanes pretty straight due to a lack of friction which comes from such a long oil pattern. It seemed like players of all styles could find a line. If they were more speed dominant, they were right of the 3rd arrow pointing it at the pocket. As the player became more and more rev dominant, they would play the lanes further and further left, but still be aiming at the pocket.

We do want to welcome Malik Diggs, Nathan Ryan, Alisabeth Rich and Harper Schmidt to the SFT AHT family! They all bowled in their first event this weekend and we were happy to have them! We hope you all had a good time in your first event, and we look forward to seeing you at the next one!  Congrats to Nathan, Alisabeth and Harper for making their first ever quarterfinals! Also congrats to Tyler Morgan for winning Momma’s Mystery Score for $20.00 with a score of 165.  Unfortunately for Tyler he would win our fifth pot which was worth the least amount.  Currently we are four pots of $500.00 which someone will have the chance at next Sunday at AMF Chandler.  Congrats to Nathan Ryan for winning the free plastic ball raffle, with an option to upgrade to any Track high performance ball for $85.00!

The quarterfinals were bowled on the fresh which is always really tough, and the scores showed it.  The scores to advance to the Semi-Final match were pretty low. In the A Division, your #1 seed would be Reggie Elliott (+110) taking on Carlos Vejar (-5).  While in the B Division, we would see Bryton Bobbitt (+78) facing off with AHT SFT veteran Ron Gonzales (-28).  The C Division would feature youth bowlers Harper Schmidt (+102) against Tyler Morgan (+77).

The A Division Semi-Final match would go back and forth between Reggie and Carlos.  Carlos would chop the 6-10 in the seventh frame to give Reggie the lead.  Reggie would return the favor with a nasty 4-6-7 split in the ninth.  Carlos would get up in the tenth and his shot would look good only to leave a 4-pin and would miss the spare to finish up the match at 196.  Reggie would get up and strike to win the match with 216 and advance to the Final match.  The C Division semi-final would be neck and neck with it all coming down to the final frame.  Harper would finish the match at 205 leaving Tyler and opening to win with a double and good fill.  Tyler’s first shot in the tenth would crush the pocket.  Tyler would get up and his second shot would look good off his hand only to crush the pocket and leave a stone 8-pin to leave him at 197.  The B Division would see Ron Gonzales run out of steam while Bryton would catch fire and win the match with a huge 247 game.

The Final match would see all three bowlers looking to win their first title.  Reggie would be making his first title match and had a good look for most of the day.  Bryton was trying to finally break through after making a few title matches, but always coming up just short.  Harper was making his Finals debut in his very first event.

The Final match would start with all three bowlers trying to find a good line.  Harper would split and open on his first frame but would settle down and get back into the match by leaving makeable spares and picking them up.  Bryton and Reggie would go back and forth to start.  It looked like it would be anyone’s game halfway through the match.  Bryton would miss a couple of spares in the seventh and eighth frames to put himself into a huge hole. Harper would hit a huge double in the seventh and eighth to put pressure on Reggie to make some shots in order to overcome the handicap deficit.  Bryton would finish out the match with a score of 175.  Harper would strike on his first ball in the tenth.  Harper’s 2nd shot would go a bit high leaving the 6-7-10 and he would finish out at 221.  Reggie would need to strike or mark and get eight on the fill to win.  Reggie would get up in the tenth and his first shot would go high leaving the 6-10.  Now he would need to spare and at least eight on the fill to win.  Reggie’s spare attempt went a bit right chopping the ten pin to finish at 202.  This would give Harper his first AHT SFT title and $750.00!!   Congrats to Reggie on 2nd place and to Bryton on 3rd place.

Thank you to everyone that came out to support our event.  Hope to see you all next Sunday at AMF Chandler lanes!!!  Have a great week!
