Flagstaff Results - 8/30/15

Location:
Well our weekend in Flagstaff was another great one! We started it off with a fun Criss Cross doubles event on Saturday afternoon, followed up with a nice SFT dinner get together at Outback Steakhouse later that night. Then it was all capped off with our big Flagstaff minor event that featured a guaranteed first place price of $600.00. Both events were bowled on the 44ft Shark oil pattern, but they definitely played much different on Sunday than Saturday.

We got to meet all kinds of new bowlers this weekend also. We want to welcome Michael Kelley, Kyle Thoma, Eric Richards, Rochelle Richards, Tyler Hailey, Ruben Redhair, Cody Peterson, and William Decker to the SFT AHT family. We are always excited for all of the new people we get to meet when we go to new areas. We also want to congratulate Cody Peterson and Tyler Hailey on advancing to the quarter finals of the Minor event in their first ever event! Great bowling guys!

The criss cross doubles was one of the highest scoring events we have ever had. We also got to watch one of the lady’s really bowled great. Lisa Sjoberg came out with a huge 779 series with handicap to propel her and Jason Satterlee into the lead after squad one, and also her and Charlie Price in 2nd place. They reigned on top of the leader board just about all day until Wes Marema bowled a huge 855 series with handicap to leap over Lisa’s two teams with Ben Spencer as his partner. This gave the lefty team their first doubles title together and also gave Lisa Sjoberg and Jason Satterlee the $100 mixed team bounty.

The dinner at outback was great, with 20 people attending. There were tons of laughs and as always, people giving each other a hard time. We were also celebrating Liz’s 28th birthday. She is the tournament director’s better half and our check in person at most events. We can’t emphasize enough how important her help over the years has been, and the tournaments wouldn’t be the same without her.

The minor event on Sunday started off with a much different tone with people bowling for a lot more money than they were on Saturday. We had some heated moments and some laughs, but we wouldn’t have it any differently. We love competition and with that, the passion for competition.

When all of the bowling was done, we had Chuck Lucas barely getting around Cody Peterson and James Roethle to get to be the C division champion. Ted McKay had a battle with Ben Spencer to be the B division champion, and Jonathan Ferrell bowled very well to win the A division title by a pretty good margin. This meant that for the first time in a while, none of the finalist were looking for their first ever SFT AHT title.

The match was a pretty good one. All three players were in the hunt going into the the last few frames. Ted looked like he was out of to start the match with quite a few opens, but a huge three bagger put him back into it too. However, an open frame from Chuck and Ted in the 9th allowed Jon to lock up the win with a clutch strike in the 9th frame to earn his second SFT AHT title. Chuck ended up finishing second and Ted 3rd.

We want to thank everyone for coming out to the events this weekend. We look forward to seeing all of you at our big Labor Day weekend event at AMF McRay this upcoming weekend. See you all there!
