Brunswick Tri-City - 4/15/2018

This weekend’s event was at Brunswick Tri City lanes. There were a lot of other events going on around town, but we were happy to get close to 70 total entries. The players bowled on the 36ft Johnny Petraglia oil pattern. It was an easy oil pattern as long as you could play the further outside part of the lane. It was very difficult to score well playing the middle of the lane, as it tends to be on shorter patterns. The cut scores at this event were much higher in the A division then the other divisions, but the average cut score to advance was around +60 with divisional insurance, so the scoring was to high. However, it seemed like each division had certain players who bowled really high and typically these were the players that were the most comfortable playing near or to the right of the first arrow.

We had a few new bowlers at this event as well. Let’s welcome Richard Meese and Dale Martin to the SFT AHT family! Hope you guys enjoyed your first event and we look forward to seeing you at another one. We had some parlay power players as well in Chris Tucker, Sean Brackett, Jeff Lawson and Josh Black. These were all players that made it to the quarter finals but only had the $25 economy parlay entry fee as a main cost. Congrats guys!

The quarter finals had similar scoring as qualifying, with marginal scoring but certain players really bowling lights out. Those players were Dylan Taylor in the A division who shot +164, Josh Black in the C division who shot +156 and Chris Tucker in the B Division who shot +90! It was fair to assume that we were going to have a high scoring final match.

The final math started off with Josh Black and Dylan Taylor throwing some strikes. While Chris was in it early, he missed a few single pin spares that put him quite a bit behind. He eventually got back striking again, but Josh and Dylan never slowed down enough for him to catch back up. Going into the 10th frame, either Dylan or Josh could win. Dylan finished first and was able to throw three strikes in the 10th to put the most pressure on Josh. While Josh had a lot of pressure on him, he also had his own destiny in his hands and Dylan did not. Josh would need two strikes in the 10th and 8 pins to win by one. His first shot was a decent one that was online but a little firm. He hit the pocket, leaving a flat 10 pin, but had pins moving around and a messenger came rolling towards it, but missed. This meant that Josh would come up short in his second title match and Dylan Taylor would win his 6th SFT AHT title in his 6 year SFT career. Averaging one a year is pretty good! Nice job Dylan!

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the event and we look forward to maybe seeing you all at our next event next Saturday at AMF Union Hills lanes!
