Brunswick Tri-City - 11/5/2017

Our event this weekend was at Brunswick Tri-City lanes on the 40 foot Brunswick Edge oil pattern. We had 82 entries (24 economy parlay & 58 qualifying entries), 22 cashers, a 1 in 4 cash ratio and paid out over $4,000.00 in main and side event prize fund. The players were really able to play a variety of angles on the pattern. Some played straight and some curved it a bit more. The cut scores for the divisions were all pretty even, with the C division being a bit higher. The cut for the day averaged around +40 to +50 which is bowling a small amount over average per game.

We had some more new bowlers join us for their first event at Tri-City. We want to welcome Stephen Sharpe, Cornelia Todecozy, Andres Chagolla, and Jose Colunga all bowled in their first event this weekend. We hope you all had a good time and look forward to seeing you at the next event!

The semi-finals were does of boring and exciting. The A and B division matches weren’t too close with Ron Gonzales and Shawna Strause winning their matches by a pretty good margin. The C division however was going to be decided in the 10th frame. Jeff Brackett finished first, and threw a good shot but left a 6 pin and spared it. After he completed his 10th frame, Tim Satomba needed to fill 20 to force a tie. He got 9 and a spare, but now needed a strike to tie. Tim pulled it a good amount, and I mean the perfect amount because he went Brooklyn to get the strike and force the 9th and 10th frame roll off. From there, Tim got started sparing his 9th. Jeff threw a great shot in his 9th, but then a bad shot in the 10th that went light Brooklyn left the 4-5-7 split (he’s left handed) that Jeff wasn’t able to convert on. This mean that Tim only needed a spare, which he was able to get and win the division title.

The final match was one of our best ever! All three players were bowling great and throwing strikes. Each player had some form of string and going into the 10th frame all three players could win. Shawna finished first and had the chance to shut everyone out with a mark. She missed left of target and went high leaving the 6-9-10. She threw it right at it, but with the slightly softer speed, her plastic ball still hooked a little bit chopping the 6-9 and leaving an open frame, giving Tim and Ron the opportunity to win the tournament. Tim finished next and could have also shut out Ron with a strike in the 10th. He also pulled it a bit and left the 6 pin. He was able to convert the spare, and if he was able to throw a strike in the fill, he could still make sure he couldn’t lose as all three strikes in the 10th for Ron would have been a tie. However, Tim only got 9 in the 10th, which mean Ron had an opening to win. His first shot was a good one, going high flush and striking. The second one was about the same, creeping a little high but still good enough to strike. He now needed another strike to win, 9 count would tie and anything less would give Tim the victory. Ron threw a pretty good shot, but a bit more outside of target then the others. He still threw a high-quality shot which allowed his ball to make it back to the pocket and strike for his 7th title and today’s championship! This also propels Ron into a very close battle with Lynn Arthur for the overall player of the year race. With only two events left, Lynn’s lead is now only around 200 points, shaping up for an exciting finish.

Thanks to everyone for coming out today! We look forward to seeing you at our Thanksgiving day weekend event on Sunday November 26th!
