Brunswick Mesa Results - 7/15/2012

Location:

I can’t believe I am saying this but we broke our entry record already! The record before this event for non-holiday events was 101. We had that a couple weeks ago at Brunswick Kyrene Lanes. This weekend at Brunswick Mesa we had 126 total entries! To make it even better we had a total of 19 new members sign up! I have to take a moment and thank the Strike Force Tour family. The job all of you have done supporting the club and each other, no matter where the event is located, has been unparalleled. Not only have you been driving all over the valley, but you have been bringing friends and telling people each month also. We have been having events now for a very short 18 weeks. The job that everyone has done in such a short period of time is unprecedented. I can’t thank all of you enough, and am happy to see the prize funds continue to grow for all of you!

We ended up with 30 total prize winners off of the 126 entries. We maintained our consistent 1 in 4 cash ratio for the tournament, while paying out an even larger first place prize then what we guaranteed to pay out. That is right, for the second straight event we had first place winning $1,100 and second taking home $550. The tournament runner-up Thomas Comer however, didn’t get in the progressive pot. This meant that half of his $550 got paid out to all of the bowlers in the progressive pot. The SFT AHT guarantees to pay out every single dollar put into the progressive pot during each event. The club no longer rolls over progressive pot money from event to event, which is a rule that has been modified from the rules in previous years. The other quarter finalists and semi-finalists were very happy to see all of their checks increase because Thomas did not get into progressive pot! Not to mention that the semi-finalists made more money also due to the increased amount of entries.

We had a lot of new SFT family members making the quarter finals. A quick shout out and congrats to Joe Lewandowski, Joe Yannacci, Jacob Meyer and Neil Taugoen on making the quarter finals in their first event with the tour. Also, Cameron Smith making the semi-finals in his first event, and Thomas Comer making the tournament finals his first try out! While we are talking about firsts, we also had a few members make their first tournament quarter finals ever. It is difficult to do, so you deserve a quick congrats as well! Good bowling to Ben Monroe and Catherine Rawsthorne!

We had another great showing by the local JBT bowlers. The kids are coming out and showing that age doesn’t indicate anything about skill or poise. Cameron Smith led the group with a top 4 finish, but Joe Lewandowski, Catherine Rawsthorne and Daniel Varholdt all bowled great and represented JBT well! Great bowling guys!

Let’s get to the big super stars of the weekend, David Kurlan of the A division and Thomas Comer of the B division. These guys were the clear favorites all the way through it. Both guys led their divisions in the quarter finals and were in destruction mode all day long. David bowled a nice set of 713 scratch and 749 with handicap to lead his field by almost 20. Thomas who led his mid-week qualifying squad matched up well all weekend and led the quarter finals in his division with 716. It was clear when these two met in the finals that it was going to be a real battle of the titans. David who has a few tournament titles already in Arizona showed his experience and poise in the final match. He had no errand shots and wheeled off a 4 bagger when he needed it most to make up the difference in handicap and take the lead in the match. Thomas had to double in the 9th and 10th to put any kind of pressure on David and wasn’t able to do it. David opened in the 10th frame to finish the match but a mark wasn’t necessary to win. David defeated Thomas 238 to 221, took home his very first SFT AHT title, and the $1,100 first place prize! Congrats to him and his supporting fan and wife Eileen on finally getting the “BIG CHECK”!

That wraps up our weekend, and boy was it another fun one. I look forward to seeing everyone at AMF Peoria Lanes on July 28th and 29th. Make sure to pay attention to the details of that event. There is no mid-week qualifying and the economy parlay squads have been modified. The parlay squads are only available at 9am and are 2 games only. The center has restricted the amount of time we can be there, so to keep that tournament feature available, we had to push it back a little bit. If you need more info you can check out the next tourney info section or call Craig at 480-686-5704. Hope to see you guys there! East side guys, you may want to car pool!
