Brunswick Mesa Results - 11/10/13

Location:

The event this weekend was at Brunswick Zone Mesa. There were 108 entries, 28 cashers, a 1 in 3.8 cash ratio and paid out over $4,000.00! The participants bowled on the PBA 37ft Viper oil pattern, which yielded fairly low scores for the weekend. There were a few bowlers as always that really bowled great and blew the roof off of the place but the average cut scores for the weekend were around +50. The pattern was very tight on the outside boards and hooked a decent amount on the inside which forced players left from the start; even straighter players had to play straight up 2nd arrow. The players that had the best ball reaction were those that could get in and play the deeper angles and slow curve the lane.

One of the greatest things about the club is that even after running for nearly two years; we are still getting SO MANY new members at ever event. As always we want to welcome all of the following members that joined the SFT AHT family this weekend. Scott King, Nathan Walters, Dominic Luna, Mark Wagner, Frank Engstrom, and Brian Wilkens welcome to the club! I hope you all had a good time at your first event! We look forward to seeing you all at your next event! We also like to always congratulate those that showed the power of the parlay this weekend. Those bowlers were Ernie Mendoza and Phil Thompson! Congrats on advancing all the way to the quarter finals with only a $25 investment into the Economy Parlay side tournaments.

The scores were pretty low for the quarter final round with cuts in both divisions to the semi’s being less than +40. The A division semi’s were going to be #1 seed David Sevier vs #4 seed Seth Grienermiller and #2 seed Ben Dewberry vs #3 seed Ron Gonzales. The B division semis were between #1 seed Ryan Wright vs #4 seed Zach Huglin and #2 seed Daniel Scott vs. #3 seed Joey Koelnc. The A division were decided before the conclusion of the 10th frame with Ron Gonzales and David Sevier moving on to bowl each other for the A division title. The B division finals would be decided by Daniel Scott and Ryan Wright.

The divisional finals were pretty opposite of each other with Ron Gonzales going huge and shutting David Sevier out pretty early in the match and the B division doing the opposite. Daniel opened in the 10th to give Ryan the opportunity to throw two strikes and get 9 to bowl for his first ever title. Ryan got the first one but wasn’t able to get the second one which meant Daniel Scott would be bowling for his first SFT AHT title.

The final match was definitely a tale of two different stories. Daniel Scott has been bowling with the SFT AHT for quite some time and has had some success at moments, but moderate at best with a few semi-final matches. Ron Gonzales, however, has a few titles, is in the hunt for the player of the year race, and made a final match the tournament prior at Brunswick Zone Glendale. It would appear that Daniel Scott is the underdog based on experience. Believe it or not, Daniel was actually -41 after two games in the quarter finals. He was over 60 off of the projected cut score after two games, and in a situation where he could have easily called it a day and mailed it in! He didn’t, he switched to a ball he had just recently purchased and with little experience with it, bowled a HUGE 254 scratch which with his handicap gave him a whopping 302! To put it in an even better perspective, his first two games scratch were 147 and 116. His last game was nearly the same amount as his first two games added TOGETHER!!! Clutch finish in the quarters gave him the momentum, to continue with scores of 209, 223 and a final match score of 230 with handicap to take home the title and $1,000.00! Congrats to Daniel on his first title and congrats to Ron on his back to back title matches and $500.00!

Thanks to everyone that came out, it was another fun weekend with the SFT AHT family. We look forward to seeing you all again at Let It Roll Bowl next Saturday for our popular Track Match Play Challenge format! See you all there!
