Brunswick Via Linda Results - 3/06/16

Our event this Sunday was at Brunswick Via Linda lanes on the 40ft Earl Anthony oil pattern. The pattern had higher scoring then most of other events this year with the average cut score for the event being around +70 which means players had to bowl around 10-15 pins over average per game. The players a variety of shots, but it appeared those that could play around the 2nd/3rd arrow with a little belly had the best ball reaction. The turn out was another good one with 73 entries (44 qualifying and 29 economy parlay), 22 cashers, a 1 in 3.1 cash ratio and paid out nearly $3,000.00 in main and side event prizes.

We also want to welcome Shawn Wood, Willy Vuong, Neal Best, and Todd Burnes to the SFT AHT family. We hope you all had a good time in your first event with us and we look forward to seeing you all again. We know Willy had a good time, because he made it to his first ever SFT AHT quarter finals in his first ever event! Nice bowling to him! Also congrats to Richard Wallace and Phil Glass on being this event's parlay power players. They made it all the way to the quarter finals through the $25 economy parlay option. Nice bowling guys!

The semi-finals put Sean Ashley vs Ernie Mendoza in the A division, Matt Zweig vs Wes Marema in the B Division, and Lynn Arthur vs Steven Acuff in the C Division. The matches had a lot on the line in the season points races as Ernie and Wes were both looking to really build up some points as both of them have titles already this season and are among the point leaders. On the other hand their opponents are all looking ot put their name in race and close that gap. All of the matches were won by decent margins making it clear who our divisional champions were. Sean Ashley in A, Matt Zweig in B, and Steven Acuff in C. This meant that all three players were looking to try and really make a splash in the points race as none of them were currently in the top 20 in the season points races.

The final match was a pretty exciting one with Sean Ashley and Matt Zweig really trading blows. Sean got started striking first, but also missed first. However, Zweig missed in a very important 8th frame, while Sean doubled in the 8th and 9th. This mean that Sean could put a lot of pressure on Matt with some strikes in the 10th. He was unable to do so, which meant Matt only needed a mark to win. Matt's shot wasn't very good and could have easily left a split. He missed left of target, went through the face, but broke up the split leaving the 3-6. He then barely covered the spare, almost missing it to the left, but getting just enough of the 3 pin to convert. This gave Matt his first ever SFT AHT title, Sean his 4th title match appearance with no titles, and Steven Acuff his 2nd title match with one major title to his credit.

Thanks to everyone that came out! We hope you all had a good time, and we look forward to seeing you at our next event at AMF Tempe Village lanes next Sunday! New two squad format, squads at 10am, noon and quarter finals at 2pm. See you all there!
