Brunswick Via Linda - 12/02/18

Our event this weekend was changed from AMF Peoria to Brunswick Via Linda on short notice.  We apologize to some of the bowlers that weren’t aware of the venue change, but we still did have a nice little turnout!  We had 71 total entries (53 qualifying & 18 economy parlay), with 22 cashers, a 1 in 3.3 cash ratio and a payout of over $3,650.00 in main and side event prize funds. The players bowled on a very difficult 40ft Bear oil pattern that had some of the lowest scores of the season. The pattern allowed players to play from any angle, but the key was trying to make high quality shots and then pick your spares.  There were quite a few people who thought that the scores would maybe go up for the last squad as the lanes would have some more play on them by then. However, this didn’t happen at all, as the cut score stayed pretty much the same in all three divisions from squad 1 to squad 3.

We want to quickly welcome our new bowlers that joined us for this event! Pat Boerboon and Brad Busaskowski bowled in their first SFT AHT event this weekend! It’s awesome to still see new faces this last in the season! We hope all of you had a great time, and we look forward to seeing you next time!  We had two parlay power players in Eric Flick and Josh Black who turned their $25 entry fee into a spot in the quarter final round! While they were the only ones to capitalize off of the economy parlay, we had several players making their first ever SFT AHT quarter finals! Congrats to AJ Rodriguez who made his first ever quarterfinals today. Your winner of the free ball drawing was Howard Strause.

The quarterfinals were held on a fresh pattern and the quarterfinal scores low, as they had been all day.  Since there were only 5 bowlers that advanced to the quarterfinals in the A Division, then the #1 seed would automatically be entered in the Final match.  Eric Flick led the A Division quarterfinals round at +69 and punch his ticket to the Finals.  In the B division, your #1 seed would be Josh Black and he would have to battle Andy Morin.  In the C Division, your leader was Jonah Tafoya and he would be taking on newcomer AJ Rodriguez.  The B division semi-final match was a close one with the match decided in the tenth frame.  Andy was able to take a small lead and put some pressure on Josh Black to fill out his frame to tie or win.  Josh’s first ball in the tenth went a bit too far, leaving him a nasty 2-10 split.  Josh would need to pick up the split and have good count on the fill to win.  Josh’s spare attempt was close, but he wasn’t able to convert, giving Andy a pass into the Final match.  Meanwhile in the C Division, Jonah was able to stay clean and stay ahead of AJ, winning the match to advance to the Finals.

Going into the Final match the favorite had to be Eric Flick.  He had just bowled a huge +69 in the quarterfinals to advance straight into the Finals.  Also he had a lot more Final’s experience as he was looking for his third title while Jonah and Andy were looking for their first titles.  The Final match started off quick with Jonah and Eric both striking.  Andy wasn’t able to line up as quickly and had to make his spares to try and stay in the match.  Jonah and Eric went back and forth with each one fighting to separate from the other two bowlers.  Going into the final few frames of the match Eric and Jonah were still neck and neck, with Andy still trying to find the right ball reaction.  Eric missed a ten pin in the ninth frame to give Jonah a small opening.  Jonah was able to capitalize by striking in the ninth and filling out his tenth frame, giving him his first AHT SFT title and $850.00!!  Eric would finish in 2nd place and Andy in 3rd place.  Congrats to everyone that came out today and supported our event.

We look forward to seeing you all at our Final event of the 2018 season next Sunday at Brunswick Mesa!  Have a great week!
