Brunswick Kyrene Results - 9/29/13

Location:
**Roger Sensing is not pictured because he left before we could get his picture so we added Anthony's mom, the beautiful and lovely Jenny Dang! (Plus if she bowled Anthony, she would have won too.)***

We had another great weekend of bowling and fun! Our event was at Brunswick Kyrene, drew 110 entries through 6 squads, had 20 cashers, a 1 in 3.7 cash ratio and paid out over $5,000.00 in main and side event prizes. The bowlers bowled on a very demanding 43ft Shark oil pattern. The pattern had some friction in the middle of the lane so even some of the styles with less of a rev rate still saw a little hook but if any ball got on the outside part of the lane it never hooked. This allowed for a lot of players with softer ball speeds to do well for the weekend. Even lower rev players did fine as long as they could soften up the speed a little bit. The scoring pace was very low with the cut for the weekend being an average of +30 to +40 which is actually bowling a little bit below average!

There was a ton of story lines with this event, so I don’t know where to begin! They say to save the best for last, but who knows if they know what they are talking about, so let’s start with one of the best stories of the weekend! Ben Dewberry’s tournament didn’t start off the best with two qualifying squads bowled and missing cut by just a little bit. However, at the end of the very last squad, he stuck around to see if his 147 that he bowled game two would be any good for Momma’s Mystery Score. The eligible scores start at 130, so he was only 18 pins away from not even having a score that could be drawn! His number ended up getting drawn and he won $500.00! If that wasn’t enough he found out that there were a number of bowlers that didn’t enter the sweeper or the Saturday bounties, which allowed him to sneak another $132 WITHOUT EVEN MAKING THE QUARTER FINALS! It doesn’t end there, he then came back on Sunday with his $632 in winnings to still try and make the quarter finals. He then bowled the economy parlay, won that, and then bowled a good enough score to qualify off of that to show the power of the parlay! What a weekend! Congrats Ben! It was only fitting that Momma’s Mystery Score was hit this weekend as “Momma” finally made her unprecedented return to the SFT AHT after being on vacation! She was missed and the members were happy to have her back! Especially Dewberry!

As always we want to welcome the new members to the club and congratulate some of the special achievements this weekend. We want to welcome Joel Franklin, Julie Franklin, Dan Ohime, Bob Carpenter, Diane Carpenter, Mike Umstead, Tanner Radcliffe, Jason Turner, and Eric Monk to the ever expanding SFT family! We hope you all had a great time at your first event! Also congrats to Theo Douthit, Dan Ohime, Bob Carpenter, Joel Franklin, and Ryan Wright on advancing to their first ever quarter finals at this event! We also had two other bowlers show the power of the parlay and the power of the membership rewards card! Hokey Begay and Susan O’Hara both won ½ off entries from the economy parlay side tournament, and then used their free progressive pot coupons from the membership rewards cards to advance to the quarter finals! Congrats guys!

After all of the competing we had quite the final match! To my knowledge it contained the biggest difference in age between the finalists that the SFT AHT has ever had. The B division was represented by Anthony Dang, an 18 year old JBT bowler, looking for his 2nd SFT AHT title. The A division was represented by Roger Sensing, a 77 year old bowling veteran, who was looking for his first ever SFT AHT title! A 59 year age difference created for a true…. up and comer vs season veteran story line. Well although Roger hadn’t bowled any real big games all day, and really just let his opponents lose to him, and Anthony was bowling pretty big scores all day, the final match didn’t follow that trend. Roger bowled a pretty good score and Anthony bowled one of his lowest scores of the tournament which gave Roger his first ever SFT AHT title! Congrats to the two bowlers on their great bowling this weekend! See the main event results below for complete scores and info!

We are very excited about our next event next weekend at Golden Pin Lanes in Tucson! Not only is it our first event in Tucson, but the center will be having another tournament on Saturday at 5pm that will be a scratch 10 gamer. This will give bowlers a great reason to get out of town for the weekend and come to Tucson to do a bunch of bowling and have some fun! Look for info this week for both events and also hotel information! Keep checking back under the “Tournaments”, “Next tourney Info” tab for more info on everything. See you all there!
