Brunswick Kyrene Results - 4/12/15

Location:
We had another great turnout at Brunswick Kyrene Lanes this weekend. The event drew 79 total entries, 55 qualifying and 24 economy parlay. It also had 19 cashers, a 1 in 4.1 cash ratio and paid out over $3,000 in main and side event prize funds. Due to the turn out we were able to increase the prize fund from the advertised guarantees from top to bottom. The low to cash was increased from $80 to $100, semi’s from $160 to $175 and the top three spots all increased $100 to $300, $400 and $700. We are excited to see the turnouts for these minor events continuing to be great.

The players bowled on the 46ft PBA Mark Roth oil pattern that yielded higher scores then most people expected. The average cut score for the day was around +110 which for most people is bowling about 20 pins over average per game. Although it was a long patter, it doesn’t have a lot of volume when means that is “thin”. That with the natural hooking characteristics of the Brunswick Kyrene lane surface helped the pattern play a little softer than expected. Straighter players could still play right, and players that hooked it could get inside and have some fun.

We had quite a few bowlers either making their first quarter finals or busting out of a slump from not making the quarter finals for a while. Congrats to Seth Greinermiller, Jason Furnas, Brian Huglin, Carlos Guzman, and Phil Glass. Also congrats to Carlos Guzman for being our only parlay power player. Carlos turned his $25 economy parlay entry into a nice $175 semi-final check and was only one match away from bowling for $700!

The semi-final matches were all won pretty convincingly. Seth Greinermiller defeated George Dayton in the A division, Phil Glass defeated Bill Brackett in the B division, and Brian Huglin defeated Carlos Guzman in the C Division. The C division match was the highest scoring semi-final match we have ever seen! Both players’ styles matched up incredibly well with the oil pattern and they were having career days.

The final match was also won very convincingly. Brian Huglin started off with the front 7 strikes! Brian’s story is pretty incredible. He hadn’t picked up a ball in nearly two years, and came to the event with one reactive ball and one plastic ball that were several years old. He barely got into the quarter finals with a qualifying score of 706 with handicap. He was the divisional insurance cut in his division, which he was the very last bowler to advance. He then slowly picked up momentum in the quarter finals, increasing his scores each game. He then bowled his two highest games in his last two matches. A nice 279 and 252 game scratch led him to his very first SFT AHT title and $700! Brian is the father of Zack and Chris Huglin who both bowl the events quite often and also have SFT AHT titles. Brian is the third one in the family to get a title and beat his wife, Stacy to the punch. Congrats Brian, great bowling!
