Brunswick Kyrene - 3/4/18

Location:

The event today was another great one with 121 entries (73 qualifying & 48 economy parlay), 34 cashers and a 1 in 3.7 cash ratio. The event paid out over $5,750.00 in main and side event prize fund! The players bowled on a very tough 32ft Wolf oil pattern that had the most success out near the gutter early but as the oil carried down allowed players to have more success inside. The pattern can be confusing for some. Where most patterns get “dryer” and hook more as games are bowled, this pattern tends to do the opposite.

We also had several new bowlers join us for this event! James Smith, Jr, Chris Tucker, Bret Dunhill, Steven Orozco, David Orozco, Tanya Roethle, Joseph Huber, Tim Gerdl and Robert Pellegrino joined us for his first ever event this weekend! We appreciate you guys coming out to give the event a try and we look forward to seeing you at the next one! We also want to congratulate Brooke Carroll, Sean Warren and Benn Jatcko on being this weekend’s Parlay Power Players! Also congrats to Mike McWhorter, Chase Nadeau and Brian Mires on making the quarterfinals in quite a little while!

The quarterfinals were low scoring as expected due to the fresh conditions, but there were just a couple of bowlers that were able to put some games together. Zachary Huglin was the #1 seed in the A division at +67.  Also getting to the semi-final round was Chase Nadeau at +10.  In their semi-final match was a real nail biter with only 10 pins of handicap separating them.  Zack was able to pull out the victory by hitting to clutch strikes in the 9th and 10th, 211 to 194.

The B division quarterfinals weren’t very close with Brian Roever leading all bowlers with an impressive +82.  Mike McWhorter also advanced to the semi-final round with at +26.  The semi-final match between Brian and Mike was almost a scratch match, with both bowlers receiving 24 pins of handicap.  The match was very tight with both bowlers fighting for the lead.  It all came down to the 8th and 9th frame when Mike split on both frames and Brian was able to stay clean for the win.

The C division quartersfinals low scoring except for the red hot Benn Jatcko, who had lead qualifying with an impressive +150.  He was able to keep on fire and lead the way at +43.  Coming in 2nd for the division was Ernie Malapo at +22.  Their semi-final match went back and forth, but Ernie was able to stay clean and get the win, 204 to 189.

The final match was all Zack Huglin, he started off with a string of strikes and never looked back.  Brian got off to a very slow start and eventually couldn’t quite get back into it. Ernie was able to stay clean for most of the match, but it was not enough to catch Zack.  Zack was able to cruise to his 5th SFT AHT title and $1,000.00!

Our next event is going to be on Saturday, March 10th at Mesa East.  This is going to be a two squad event with our 1st squad starting at 12:00 PM! Hope to see you all there!
