Brunswick Desert Sky Results 4/19/15

Our event this weekend was at Brunswick Desert Sky, and like most times, the SFT AHT family came together and had a good time! The event drew 84 total entries (67 qualifying entries and 17 economy parlay entries), had 27 cashers, a 1 in 3.1 cash ratio and paid out over $4,000.00 in main and side event prize fund. The players bowled on the 40ft PBA Earl Anthony oil pattern that yielded fairly low scores. The pattern did seem to work better for players that could play it straighter and stay out of trouble.

As always we like to welcome and congratulate many people at every event. We want to welcome David Anthony to the SFT AHT family and we look forward to seeing him at the next event. Congrats to Marvin Randal and Robert Ervin on advancing to their first ever SFT AHT quarter finals. Also, congrats to Jakob Butturff and Charlie Light on advancing all the way to the quarter finals through the economy parlay and being our parlay power players! We are always very grateful that over three years into our birth, we are still seeing new faces, having new bowlers succeed and watching the economy parlay still be one of the valley’s favorite tournament bowling features.

The semi-finals had a couple exciting matches. The A division match had red hot Jakob Butturff squaring off against the very tough and overdue Gary Demeny. Jakob put some early pressure on Gary with the front 6 strikes, but Gary didn’t back down. He kept a clean game, converting some hard spares and made some good shots to keep himself in it. However, Gary wasn’t able to put together enough strikes and a broken up split for Jakob allowed him to advance to the final match 252 to Gary’s 236. The beginning of this season is when a new eligibility restriction was added to allow some other players into the A division, but they were stuck with 0 handicap no matter what. While many expected these players to have some success earlier then they have, Jakob has lead the charge with the most success. He has a 2nd place finish and was looking to be the first ever SFT AHT bowler to win an event with no handicap.

The B division had Bill Brackett defeating Dave Inoshita in a match that wasn’t too close. Bill was able to make some spares and advance to his 5th title match, but he was looking for his 2nd title.  The C division was the other close match with James Roethle bowling a pretty good score of 235 with handicap, but losing to Brian Roever’s 245.

The final match was a pretty good one with the match being pretty close for the majority of the match. Jakob had an errand shot that left him the 3-7-9 split and put him behind early on. The match was really coming to a head in the 8th frame. Brian Roever was in the lead, with Jakob on his heels and Bill Brackett not too far behind. However, a 7 pin that Jakob then missed , followed up by Bill leaving a washing out and missing it, really sealed the title up for Brian. Jakob then threw some important shots at the end to insure 2nd place, which left Bill in 3rd place.

Brian wasn’t in the progressive pot, which allowed the rest of the checks to be increased by quite a bit to help distribute the remaining progressive pot that Brian didn’t win. We always pay out all of the progressive pot at each event that is paid into the progressive pot. This is a feature that is loved by the players, as it rewards the players that bowled that event. Brian also made quite a few more friends, since nearly 20 bowlers checks got increased by $25! Congrats to Brian and everyone else!

Final Match:

SFT AHT Brunswick Desert Sky $1,000.00 Championship!
