Brunswick Desert Sky - 2/10/18

Our event this weekend was at Brunswick Desert Sky lanes! We had a great turn out with 84 entries (60 qualifying entries and 24 economy parlay), 24 cashers, and a 1 in 3.5 cash ratio and paid out over $5,200.00 in main and side event prize fund.  We had two bowlers, Andy Morin and Ben Dewberry, win the Momma’s Mystery score for a total of $950.00.  It just goes to show you how much $5.00 can win you if your score is drawn.

The players bowled on a 36ft Brunswick Phase 1 oil pattern that provided slightly higher cut scores than usual. Due to the shorter oil pattern it allowed players to get some free hook on the gutter which is similar to the house shot. However, it is still a sport pattern, and isn't a walk in the park. There isn't a lot of oil in the middle of the lane, like a house shot, so you have to get it to the outside friction or the ball will run high.

We also had some new players again for this event.  Welcome Leah Zweig, Nicholas Ochse, Justin Song and Paul Schuler. We hope you guys had a good time at your first event! We look forward to seeing you at the next one.

There were 19 semi-finalists which meant we cut to the top two in each division. The A division was #1 seed Matthew Zweig vs #2 seed Eric Flick. The B division had #1 seed Brian Jackson vs #2 seed Brian Schamber.  In the C division had #1 seed Adrian Luna vs #2 seed Alex Souza. Just like the qualifying, these semi-final matches were very close.  It came down to the 10th frame for all three divisions.  In the A Division, Matthew Zweig was able to narrowly defeat after Eric missed his spare.  In the C Division, Alex Souza was able to knock off Adrian Luna by five pins.  The B Division ended up tied at 10 frames, which lead to a 9th & 10th frame roll off.  Both B Division bowlers had the same handicap, so it came down to the final shot for Brian Schamber.  He wasn’t able to strike to re-tie the match and let Brian Jackson squeak into the finals.

The final match was a high scoring one with Alex Souza bowling his highest score of the tournament with a 268 scratch and a 305 with handicap. Matthew Zweig was right behind with a 234 scratch and 244 with handicap, and in 3rd was Brian Jackson who had 190 scratch and 211 with handicap. This was Alex’s SFT AHT 2nd title, congrats to him on his win and $700.00 prize.

Thanks to everyone that came out this weekend to make this event a success!  We look forward to our next standard event on Sunday, February 18th at AMF Tempe Village!
