Our event this weekend was at Bowlero Avondale! We had a good turnout, with all the other events going on throughout the state, with 68 total entries (48 qualifying and 20 economy parlay), 21 cashers, 1 in 3.24 cash ratio and paid out over $4,100.00 in main and side event prize funds! The players bowled on a 36ft Brunswick Phase 1 oil pattern that played very difficult on the fresh, but really opened up on the last squad of the day. The pattern played a bit tricky with the middle of the lane playing like a shorter pattern, but the outsides did not. The outside part of the lane seemed to want to hang or not have as much reaction off them as one would expect with a shorter pattern. This kept scores very low until the last squad of the day with everyone moving left and being able to open up the pattern for the highest scores of the day.
We did have some new members join us for their first event. We want to welcome Adam Hamilton and Shane Smith to the SFT AHT events! Congrats to both on making the quarterfinals in their first event and we hope you guys had a good time! We also want to congratulate our only Parlay Power Players Brandon JohnsonKroman on making it all the way to the Finals off his $25 economy parlay entry. Congrats to KJ Martinez who won Momma’s Mystery Pot for $485.00 with a nice 192 game. Finally, congrats to Bryton Bobbitt for shooting his first ever 300!!! Bryton had tried the PBA regional event, in East Mesa, the day before and that experience helped sharpen his skills for today’s event. Nice bowling! Your winner of the raffle for a free plastic ball, with an option to upgrade to any high-performance Track ball for only $85.00, was Eddie Thompson.
The quarterfinals were bowled on the fresh oil pattern and the scores favored those that could get their ball to shape enough to carry. Also, since there were 5 bowlers in the A Division and the B Division, and the 1 in 3 cut ratio to the semi-finals would only advance 1 bowler from each of those divisions. Your A Division leader would be Kevin Convirs (+84) and your B Division leader would be Leon Sabelka (+62). The C Division would have 6 bowlers meaning that the top 2 bowlers would square off in a semi-final match. Your #1 seed in the C Division would be Brandon JohnsonKroman (+105) and he would take on Timothy Satomba (+52) to see who would meet Kevin and Leon in the Finals. Brandon and Tim would go back and forth for most of the match, but in the ninth frame Tim would go high on his shot leaving the 4-6-7 split. Tim was only able to get 2 leaving it up to Brandon to stay clean and win the match 230 to 200.
Going into the Final match all three finalist were looking for their 2nd SFT AHT title. Brandon JohnsonKroman had made it all the way to the Finals on his economy parlay entry and Kevin Convirs had been throwing the ball good all day. Leon Sabelka had been pretty consistent for most of the day and his scores reflected it. It would really come down to who wanted it most.
The Final match would see all three bowlers struggle to get lined up. Kevin was able to string a few strikes to make up the handicap difference and take a small lead. Brandon would struggle on the left lane leaving washouts in the 1st, 3rd and 5th frames. Leon would quietly stay clean as he was able to get his ball to the pocket and pick up his makeable spares. Brandon would get lined up and able to string a couple of strikes together to get back into the match. He would need to double in the tenth to put some pressure on Kevin and Leon but couldn’t get his ball to carry finishing the match with a score of 202. Leon would get up next and would nine spare and get nine on his fill to finish at 218. This would mean that Kevin would only have to spare and get good count on his fill to win. Kevin would throw his first ball, but it would sail a bit long leaving him the bucket (3-5-6-9) and he would fire his spare attempt straight, but his ball would hook a small bit to chop the spare and leaving the 5-pin for a score of 211. This would give Leon his 2nd SFT AHT title and $740.00 first place prize. Congrats to Kevin Convirs on 2nd place and to Brandon JohnsonKroman on 3rd.
Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the event this weekend! We look forward to seeing everyone next Sunday at Bowlero Kyrene!! Hope to see you all there and have a great week!!!
