AMF Tempe Village - 7/22/18

Our event this weekend was at AMF Tempe Village lanes! We had another great turn out with 95 total entries (66 qualifying and 29 economy parlay), 25 cashers, 1 inĀ  3.8 cash ratio and paid out over $4,000.00 in main and side event prize fund! The players bowled on a 36ft Phase 1 oil pattern that played very difficult. This was because the middle of the lane played like a shorter pattern, but the outsides did not. The outside part of the lane seemed to want to hang or not have as much reaction off of them. This kept scores very low with the average cut scores not requiring players to bowl over average by very much. There weren't any players that bowled over +100 and the average cut score was around +30.

We did have some new members join us for their first event. We want to welcome Robert Cooney and Ramsey Basurto to the SFT AHT events! We hope you guys had a good time in your first event! We know Ramsey did, but we will get to that later! We also want to congratulate the parlay power players James Newell and Joseph Knight on making it all the way to the quarter finals off of their $25 economy parlay entry. Also congrats to Ramsey Basurto, Nick Collins, Joseph Knight and Kevin Dollar on making it to their first ever quarter finals! Ramsey went the furthest, but Joseph also made it to the semi-finals!

The quarter finals had some pretty low scores as well. So low that a person that would have advanced to the semi-finals left before the results were announced! He would have tied Valda McMillian for the final spot into the semi-finals and would have had to bowl her in a 9th and 10th frame roll off. However, since he wasn't present, she was able to move right into the semi-finals. She ended up taking advantage of that as well bowling her highest game of the event to defeat Joseph Knight and move on as the C division champion in the final match. In the A division Mike Fitzgerald defeated Ron Gonzales to move on to the final match. Lastly, in the B division we had a very exciting finish!

We had Ramsey Basurto, who was on fire. He lead qualifying and the quarter finals, bowling against Dishawn Byrd. Dishawn finished the match first, and threw the first two strikes in the 10th, although one was brookly, and then got 9 in the fill to put some pressure on Ramsey. Ramsey needed the first strike and good count to win and move on. He threw a great shot on his first one, ball reacted well and he carried all 10. His second shot was a little fast and sped through the breakpoint leaving him the 1-2-4-10. He had to cover the spare to tie Dishawn now and move into a roll off. Ramsey threw it right where you would want to to convert the spare, and the only way to miss it, would be sending the head pin around the 10 pin. He was able to avoid that kind of bad break, and covert the spare to move into 9th and 10th frame roll off. The roll off seemed to not go the way Dishawn would have preferred. His first shot was 6 and he was able to convert the spare but, almost missed it. This in his 10th frame, he had an errand shot missing the head pin left and then missed it left again, making it pretty easy for Ramsey to take home the B division title.

The final match was pretty close at the beginning with all three players being in contention to win. However, starting in frame 5 Ramsey started stringing them to pull ahead and Mike Fitzgerald couldn't keep up and Valda, who only needed to cover her spares had a few opens which allowed Ramsey to win his first title in his first event and take home $1,000.00! Congrats to Mike on 2nd and $600 and Valda on 3rd for $150 (not in the progressive pot). Thanks to everyone for coming out! We look forward to seeing you next Saturday at AMF Union Hills!
