AMF Deer Valley Results - 8/2/15

Location:

Our event this Sunday was at AMF Deer Valley lanes on the 39ft Winding Road oil pattern. The pattern may have been winding but it seemed to wind right into the pocket! We saw some of the highest scores we have ever seen! The players were able to play it almost like a house shot. They had free hook to the outside and a little bit of hold in the middle of the lane. It appeared that the most dangerous players were those that had slow ball speeds in the C division. Those players that were comfortable hooking it a little more had great ball reaction and some pins to make them tough to beat. However, once match play comes, you never know if those lower averaged bowlers will be able to keep their composure. The event had 58 total entries (40 qualifying & 18 economy parlay), 15 cashers and a 1 in 3.8 cash ratio.

We keep our streak alive for having parlay power players, with Daniel Scott making all the way to the quarter finals round from the economy parlay. Daniel bounced back big from the slump he was in with huge sets of 832 and 795! It was hard to no consider him the favorite to win it all before the quarter finals even started!

One of the coolest things about this event was that we were fortunate enough to have Track Bowling Products allow the bowlers to demo all of their newest products coming out this winter. The players had access to the Paradox, Tour X solid, and Legion to try out during the event, or to practice with on a separate pair. To say that the players liked this was an understatement! Not only did a lot of players try the stuff out, but 3 of them actually used the equipment to make it to the quarter finals! Bill Brackett and Ben Dewberry with the Paradox and Lynn Arthur with the Tour X Solid!

The quarter finals was a pretty exciting one. We had the A and C division winners change the very last game for a fun finish. In the A division, Jason Satterlee bowled a huge 248 game to barely get around Dylan Taylor for the A division title. The C division had Lynn Arthur being as clutch as usual with a good game to take advantage of Robert Ervin's bad game, for Lynn to win the C division title. The B division, wasn't quite as dramatic. Ben Spencer was hot all day long and only proved it further by bowling a huge +197 to be the B division champion. It was clear that he appeared to the favorite going in, but all three players were seasoned veterans, all in the season points race hunt for Player of the Year.

The final match was another exciting one with all of the players striking quite a bit and all three of them having a change to win going into the 10th frame. Lynn going first was the dagger as he opened leaving a split in the 10th. This mean that Jason could double to lock up the win, but if not Ben was right on his heels. Jason threw two great shots in the 10th frame to guarantee him the title and $600.00. It still wasn't over yet for Ben, as he needed the first one in the 10th and decent count to beat Lynn. He threw a great first shot and got the strike, but a mediocre second shot got him an 8 count and he had to get one pin to beat Lynn by 1. He was able to do so, give him 2nd place and $300!

We want to give a sincere congrats to Jason on bouncing back from a slump that he was in for quite some time and bowling incredibly well today and being clutch when he needed to. An even bigger congrats for his and his wife's announcement about expecting a little Satterlee in January of 2016! This is news the director is incredibly excited about, as both of these amazing people will make great parents and the SFT family gets to grow, yet again! Congrats guys!
