AMF Chandler Results - 8/5/2012

Location:

This weekend’s event was at AMF Chandler Lanes. We only had 5 squads which is the least amount of squads we have ever had available. This didn’t stop everyone from coming out, competing and supporting the SFT family. The event drew a total of 85 entries, had 22 cashers and a 1 in 3.8 cash ratio! Even though we take a lot of bowlers to the finals, this doesn’t stop us from paying $1,000 for first and $500.00 for second! It’s only possible because of how much all of the members continue to spread the word and show their support! Thanks to everyone for their help making the new SFT AHT a growing success!

The bowlers bowled on a 41ft modified house shot that really showed a variety of transition. It was clear after the first day that the lefties had a little better shot with 4 of the 8 qualifiers on Saturday being left handed. On Sunday there was only one lefty that qualified, and the scores were a little lower with scores as low as +59 and +76 advancing to the quarter finals. We did have a few members making their very first quarter finals. Congrats to Dwayne Ehrman, Mike Radonski, David Volking Jr., Darrell Heath, Bill Held and Vance Varholdt on making their first quarter finals appearance.

Although the qualifying on Sunday didn’t seem as dominated by the left handers, the quarterfinals most definitely were. The “A” Division bowlers that advanced from semi-finals were Don Caron, Bill Held and Ben Spencer. That is right, all left-handed. In the “B” Division, the righties still had a couple bowlers representing in Hokey Begay and Ben Dewberry. The last bowler in the “B” Division semi-finals was season point leader Jesse Decker. The more interesting thing was the fact that father son team David Volking Jr & Sr. both finished 4th in each division. They were only a spot away from having a chance to bowl each other in the title match! This didn’t stop them from grabbing a pizza and watching the exciting final matches!

The semi-finals in the A Division was a bit of a match between Ben Spencer and Bill Held. However, Ben eventually pulled ahead and beat the other bowlers on his pair scratch with a nice score of 246 with handicap. Ben had made the final match before at AMF Desert Hills but fell a little short in that title match losing to Christina Cantlin. The semis in the B Division were very tight up until the 9th frame of the match. A couple late opens shut Jesse Decker out and the only bowler who had a chance of catching Hokey in the 10th frame was Ben Dewberry. However, a split on his first ball cut his title hopes short and left Hokey Begay to bowl in his first SFT AHT title match.

Hokey showed that he didn’t care about the lefty vs righty non-sense and came out of the gate striking like a mad man! Hokey bowled a 258 game! This was his 2nd highest game for the whole entire tournament! Hokey made the most out of his first title opportunity, and took home the BIG CHECK of $1,000! Ben, who bowled a final score of 190, led the lefties, but finished 2nd and took home $500.00. Congrats to both of you guys!

Our next event is at Glenfair Lanes on August 11th & 12th. We will have all of our tournament features back in full. Mid-week qualifying will be available Thursday night and the Economy Parlay will be available both Saturday and Sunday. We hope to see everyone out at that event; it is our last event before our big Labor Day event at Brunswick Mesa Lanes. Thanks again to all of those that came out and I can’t tell you how excited I am about seeing what the winter has in store for the SFT family and its continued growth!
