AMF Desert Hills

Our event this weekend was at AMF Desert Hills unfortunately we had a low turnout due to other tournaments running this weekend.  We had 43 total entries with 26 qualifying entries and 17 economy parlay entries. We paid out just around $1,700.00 in main and side event prize funds for the event.  The players bowled on a very tough 38ft Los Angeles that had low for the day. For the most part, players were trying to play outside or the deep the middle of the lane keeping their angles fairly tight.  The key to this pattern was leaving makeable spares and then picking up your spares.

Our event this weekend was at AMF Desert Hills and had another good turnout with all the other events going on around the Valley.  We had 67 total entries (49 qualifying & 18 economy parlay) for 3 squads, 24 prize winners and a 1 in 2.8 cash ratio which we paid out over $4,000 in main and side event prize funds. The players bowled on the 43ft Dean Man’s Curve oil pattern that was a very difficult pattern to play. Players had trouble playing on the outside of the lane and there wasn’t a lot of margin of error when playing inside.  Pair to pair were big differences, but once the oil pattern started to break down in the 3rd squad, then scores started to go up!

This weekend’s event was at AMF Desert Hills.  The event drew 57 total entries (42 qualifying and 15 economy parlay), had 21 cashers, a 1 in 2.7 cash ratio and paid out over $2,800.00 in main and side event prize funds. The players bowled on a 40ft Kegel Highway to Hell oil pattern which, as the name indicates, wasn't the easiest of patterns. There was plenty of hook, even for 40 feet, which meant players could play all over the lane from straight to inside, to far left. However, this also meant that the pair to pair was very different since players were playing all over the place.  The qualifying scores were low all day, the key was being able to make your spares and bowlers just needing to bowl their average to make it to the quarterfinal round.

This weekends event was at AMF Desert Hills. It has been awhile since we have had an event at this center. The event drew 80 total entries (55 qualifying and 25 economy parlay), had 24 cashers, a 1 in 3.4 cash ratio and paid out over $4,000.00 in main and side event prize fund. The players bowled on a 35ft boardwalk oil pattern that played a bit harder then usual. This pattern can tend to be high scoring, because it allows some miss room to the right if the player is able to get far enough to the right. That did exist on some of the pairs, but other pairs didn’t have it. It seems that the longer and longer that centers have these same lane beds, the topography across the house gets more and more different. This causes the differences from pair to pair to be larger.

Well we had an incredible weekend! We had the largest turn out we have ever had for a 6 squad tournament! In 6 squads of qualifying there were 111 entries, 29 prize winners, a 1 in 3.8 cash ratio, and over $5,824.00 paid out in main and side tournament prize fund! This was truly a great weekend for the club in a lot of ways. We got to see all of the great elements of the SFT AHT from beginning to end! I can’t way to tell you all what I am talking about!

First, as always, we have to talk about what the players bowled on this weekend. It was a 42ft modified house pattern that yielded pretty medium scoring pace. There were some straight players that did well and some players with bigger curves that did well. However, most players played the middle of the lane, as there was an out of bounds from 1st arrow to the gutter. The highest qualifying series for the entire event was only +103 and the cut scores averaged around +40 to +60.
