2017 Tournament Results

AMF Mesa - 5/7/17

Our event this weekend was at AMF Mesa and featured the 40 frame game format! This format is a lot of fun, as each frame is something different and includes things like mulligans, no-tap scoring, “payday” frames and the dreaded sour grapes frames. This event had a great turn out with 64 entries! Not only does this format do well normally, but the fun events being worth season points has had a huge impact on the turn out as well. A couple high cashes in the fun events can still impact the season points races quite a bit.

Of the 64 entries there were 16 cashers in the main event and many people cashing in the pay day frames. A big congrats to Brooke Carroll, Ron Gonzales, Tom Large, and Eric Flick on winning the clutch money today in the bingo, bango, bongo! These players had to strike out in the 40th frame to take home over $100 each. There isn’t anything quite like throwing strikes when you know you need them!

AMF McRay - 5/21/17

Our event this weekend was at AMF McRay Plaza lanes and it was a big one! We had a great turn out with over 80 entries in two squads. The total numbers were 84 entries, 23 cashers, a 1 in 3.5 cash ratio with a payout of over $4,000.00 in main and side event prize fund. Most importantly we had 68 qualifying entries which allowed us to pay $1,000.00 for first! The players bowled on a 35ft boardwalk oil pattern that had low scoring to start, but really opened up in the 2nd squad. Most bowlers on the first squad didn’t even bowl average, and the ones on the 2nd squad were most of the daily leaders for the two squad event. Pretty much all players that had success played to the outside of the lane. It was very difficult to play the middle of the lane because the pattern was so short.

AMF Union Hills - 5/29/2017

Wow! What a weekend of bowling! The majors are always an incredible amount of work, bowling, fun, payouts and exciting finishes! The event drew 226 total entries, had 62 cashers, a 1 in 3.6 cash ratio and paid out over $15,000.00 in main and side event prize fund. There is no question that the best way to measure the success of a tournament is on its payout. The amount paid out and the ratio of its payout. In terms of those metrics, this was one of our most successful tournaments ever. 1st was 20 times your entry fee, 2nd 10+ times your entry, last cash was 1.5 times your entry fee, we had a 1 in 3.6 cash ratio and paid out over $15,000.00! Absolutely incredible! Thanks to the amazing SFT AHT family for making these events such a huge success!

Brunswick Mesa - 6/11/17

We had another huge turnout at Brunswick Zone Mesa with 120 total entries (89 qualifying 31 economy parlay), 34 cashers, 1 in 3.5 cash ratio, and paid out over $6,000.00 in main and side event prize fund! The players bowled on a 40ft Sphinx oil pattern that started off with medium scoring and after a couple squads really opened up and allowed for higher scoring from players that could hook it a bit and play the middle of the lane. The average cut scores for the day were around +80 which requires bowling about 15 pins over your average per game.

Glenfair Lanes - 6/17/17

We had a fun little sweeper event this weekend at Glenfair Lanes. The players bowled on a 38ft Alacatraz oil pattern that seemed to offer medium to low scores early and higher scores later in the day. We did have a variety of styles do well though with some straighter players and higher rev players finishing in the top 5. The event had a total of 42 entries, 10 cashers and paid out over $1,000.00 in main and side event prize fund.

After the first squad the leader was James Roethle at +67 and the projected low to cash was a bit below that at +61. The second squad was our largest squad of the day and increased the number of cashers to 7 and lowered the projected low to cash to +51, but the new leader was Paul Williams at +87. The third squad had some players jump off to some big games with Brooke Carroll, Mike Fitzgerald, and Ron Gonzales bowling good scores the first two games.

Brunswick Desert Sky - 6/25/17

Our event this weekend was at Brunswick Desert Sky lanes. The event drew 84 total entries, had 24 cashers, a 1 in 3.5 cash ratio and paid out over $4,000.00 in main and side event prize fund! The players bowled on a very tough 47ft pattern that had very low scoring on the fresh and slightly higher scoring on the later squads. It wasn’t possible for many players to successfully play right of the 7 or 8 board. Most players were left of the 2nd arrow and it seemed that the players that had softer ball speeds or higher rev rates faired the best throughout the day. Most of the cut scores all day long only required the players to bowl their average. The highest scores for the day were normally players that averaged 10-15 pins a game over their average. It was definitely a tough pattern and was a change of pace for the regulars who haven’t bowled on a long pattern in quite a while.

Brunswick Via Linda - 7/16/17

We have had a run of great turn outs even though it’s the summer season and this weekend kept that streak alive! We had a huge 114 entries (80 qualifying & 34 economy parlay) turn out, with 30 cashers, a 1 in 3.8 cash ratio and a payout of over $5,000.00 in main and side event prize fund. The players bowled on a very difficult 40ft Bear oil pattern that had some of the lowest scores of the season. The pattern allowed players to play from any angle, but the key was trying to make high quality shots and make your spares. There were quite a few people who thought that the scores would maybe go up the last squad as the lanes would have some more play on them by then. However, this didn’t happen at all, as the cut score stayed pretty much the same in all three divisions from squad 2 to squad 1.

AMF Mesa - 7/23/17

Well, yet again we set another record! The continued support from the growing SFT community is pushing the club to further and further heights! We got the most amount entries for a 3 squad standard event! 136 entries in 3 squads is not only a new high, but is also more bowlers then we normally have on the Monday’s of a Major event! Pretty impressive turn out! A big thanks for AMF Mesa for quickly adapting for us and hosting a well ran event. A huge thanks to my wife, better half and absolute trooper Liz who worked her tail off. We normally have 2 check in people during Monday’s of Majors and Liz handled it all by herself with even more entries then a Monday Major. Huge thanks to her!

Brunswick Tri-City - 8/6/17

Our event this weekend was at Brunswick Tri-City lanes and had a great turn out considering there were 3 other tournaments going on the same day. We had 89 total entries (69 qualifying & 30 economy parlay) for 3 squads, 25 prize winners and a 1 in 3.5 cash ratio. The players bowled on the 43ft Brunswick Phantom oil pattern that was another very low scoring event. Players could play in just about any part of the lane, but there wasn’t a lot of margin of error and the pair to pair differences were also tough.

AMF Chandler - 8/13/17

Our Track Match Play Challenge event had a total of 47 entries today and paid out over $1,300.00 in main and side event prize fund! The players bowled on a 47ft Paris oil pattern that hooked a lot due to the lane surface at this bowling center. The players had to play the middle of the lane like most long patterns, but it was because anything outside of that would overreact by quite a bit. The scoring was medium to high all day long with cashing numbers normally averaging around +80.
